Ok, I admit, I didn't make my mom buy me Friday Night Lights (the book) until AFTER I fell in love with the movie.
Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team, And A Dream by H.G. Bissinger was a very... interesting book. If you don't like non-fiction, don't like long books, or don't understand football, DO NOT READ IT! The movie and TV show are both essentially all about football and the lives of the players (by the way, this was based on a true story). However, the book is more about the history of Odessa, Texas and it's love of high school football.
After Boobie Miles, Odessa High's star running back, injures his knee during a game, the team has to fight without him to get to the state championship. In the mean time, people are still fighting race in the area, due to the fact that after a redistricting, a lot more black boys started going to Odessa, and the white families didn't like that. They thought it would make it so their boys wouldn't play.
This was a really good book for me. If you love football, you should read it, or at least watch the movie.
I give it 4/5 stars.
