The Screwtape Letters - C.S. Lewis

Oh yeah. This is a totally great book. I love the way Lewis makes it sound like a devil is actually speaking. This is one of my favorites.

A quote I intend to put in my senior page is: "Never having been human (Oh, that abominable advantage of the Enemy's!)..." I nearly split my sides laughing every time I read it.

And can anyone tell me how Screwtape knows what it's like when a demon loses a soul--since Screwtape is obviously still around, he's never lost one himself. So how the heck does he know?!?! Gaahhh! that bugs me.

Lol, I'm sure he's made his mistakes in his time, darling.

I noted my comment earlier on, and I'd just like to add to the mix Reflections on the Psalms by the same author. For anyone who has ever had any interest in the Bible, whether for religious purposes or just literary interest, it's a spectacular read, at once entertaining, instructive and reflective. What a brilliantly rounded man Lewis must have been: I would have loved to meet him.

Yay! I'm currently rereading this book! Well, I read it end to end straight through once, and now I just flip it open and see where I land. It's fun that way.

I would definitely call this book satire first and then theology, but just barely. Looking at damnation from a devil's point of view really make you think. It's the best way to see your own flaws.

*smug* It just totally crashed on me, about a month ago, that I'll get to (in heaven, of course). Yeah, still haven't stopped geeking out about that.

I love Lewis! The Screwtape Letters were what I wish every theological book were like: witty and well written. I can't wait to meet Lewis one day; I want to ask him how he thought of these things.
