I've seen adds out for the Inkspell movie and it looks pretty good. I read both Inkheart and Inkspell over the summer. And then I read them again. And AGAIN. The idea of being able to read yourself into a book is the best thing since Harry Potter. Plus Farid=awwwww! I think a third book is coming out, Inkdeath. Does anyone know when it comes out?
I think I read Inkheart.... It was the first one. Anyways, I found it really long-winded and didn't manage to finish it. The idea was good but the way Cornelia Funke wrote didn't 'grab' me.
Having said that, I read The Thief Lord about three years ago and loved it. Maybe I should give it another chance?
I have to agree with Alainna. The concept of the book was really cool, however I did not like the way Cornelia Funk wrote it. The only character I liked was Dustfinger, and I loath the names 'Meggie' and 'Mo'. The thing that annoyed me most about the book, was the villain, named something like Capricorn, right? He was made out to be this 'big', 'bad', and 'scary' guy and yet he did nothing in the first book.
Hehe Alainna, that's funny. I loved Inkheart and absolutely could not stand the Thief Lord.
I for one, really enojoyed these, though it's been a while since I read them, I can't really remember what happens? No, wait! I remember Inkspell ends like Dead Man's Chest (I read it the summer the movie came out). And my friend kept telling me the ending, then telling me that wasn't the ending and I got really confused. I was so sad at the end of it...

I don't know why I love these books, but I do... I just hope that the movie doesn't butcher it.
I agree that the books are a little long-winded and Capricorn fails to frighten. I'll tell you who is really scary: Mortila! I tell you what, that woman was scary!
It's funny, it was the Thief Lord that kind of disappointed me. It was a great story, but then it unexpectedly turned fantasy. It was so weird that it put me off. Though I have reread it since and did like it, I never quite got over that first experience.
Stockmar: The Cornelia Funke website says that Inkdeath will be out around Spring 2008. I don't know how things stand now, but that was what it said... *jigs in anticipation*

Then I found out about the sequel and I *squeeed* for a really long time... In a way, I don't like Inkspell as much as Inkheart (the ending and the story just seemed to have a different feel), but in a way, I like it more. It's hard to explain.
But a major thumbs up to these books. I don't know if they are for everyone (I loaned a copy to a friend and she didn't like it all that much) but I for one am a fan!
There's something about the way they talk about books in those books that's so... I just love it. It took me forever to come around to reading Inkheart. I kept getting it out from the library, but I never read past the first sentences, or the first paragraph. When I finally did, I couldn't put it down. It's funny, I don't really like any of her other books, but I like her Ink books. Dustfinger is one of the most original characters I've ever come across, and one of the most lovable (not in a cute cuddly way, but). I own the first one, and I tend to pick it up whenever I can't think of what else to read, or I just need to read myself to sleep, or something to do in a waiting room or something. So I read it a lot, even though I've only read the whole thing through twice.
I love her quotes at the beginning of each chapter. My sister thinks their strange, but I think what she did with that was amazing.
