Still hating Esteban

Don't ask me who Esteban is - I don't know either! But I hate him nevertheless...

In an ideal world, here's what my biography would say:

Girl sailor, prt-time escape artist who once funded her love of burlesque costumes by using up all her inheritance money from her late grandmother's Butterfly Rehabilitation Sanctuary in Madagascar. In her spare time, she ditches her square workmates (who make her listen to the Pussycat Dolls) to hang out with her hip band of vagabonds who know a man called Shirley who supplies them with a magic potion that allows them to travel to other planets and converse with the likes of Baba Yagu and the Hoodoo trancists.

But alas, reality is much more dull:

I graduated from university this summer with a degree in English. I took a creative writing module and loved it so much because I got encouragement from my lovely tutor who writes like Frank O'Hara and from classmates who are the epitome of cool.
I'm now working as a receptionist for Social Services because I don't know what I want to do in life, other than write... I wish I never had to work, meh, but money makes the world go round at the end of the day.

Hi again!

The ideal world is often one of much more interest, but reality can be amazing just the same if you work towards your ideal ;)

I am also in university majoring in English...but also Education, and thinking about adding a social work major (but can't decide if I want to add another year or not).

What do you like to write?

Glad you've joined!

Again, feel free to PM me if you need anything or to chat or something!

Ciao,

Yes, adding a social work major is very sensible. I was pretty much thinking of social work or teaching too, until I started working for social services. I'd prefer to be a teacher, but it's so hectic and stressful so I really need to think about it. My attitude to work is like that of Allen Ginsberg:

except that I'm nowhere near as talented as him and it would be silly for me to give up work :(

I write mainly poems (I've written like only 30 poems or so, 3 short stories and I'm in the middle of a play...) but none of it is serious. I wouldn't exactly say it's purely for fun either, because sometimes it's not exactly fun writing stuff and being alone in my room with nothing but a laptop. Right now, everything about me is 'in-between'. I'm not that young or old, I don't write for fun or seriously. I'm just sort of in transition.

What about you? What kind of stuff do you write? I'd love to read some of it.

Aye, I would indeed like to not work, but at the same time I'd much rather do something meaningful and I don't think what I write is much like a life changing TKM or anything of the sort. I have an excessive want to change the world, even in small doses.

I also write poetry and am a poetry mod, actually. I dabble in short stories and I have a sort-of novel but nothing other than poetry have I ever written for the purpose of getting published, I suppose. I love to write children's stories. But, admittently I haven't written much of anything in the past year other than boring essays and papers for college...too consuming!

I look forward to reading some of your work ;)
