If you are talking about one away from YWS then there are a few ways:

Content, as snoink says, is the drive to a blog. Post interesting stuff!

Link Exchange, visit your rivals and offer to swap links. The more links the higher the page rank. The more links the more people will visit.

Make RSS easy. If you dont know what this is then I suggest you do some hard research.
