Ok.. I have to write poems for my English class.. though I'm not very good at it. So I would appreciate any feedback on how I could better improve my poetry! :D

By the way.. Because I'm not good at poetry, I have no idea where this would fit :P

~*~

I put my pencil to the paper
Draw hesitant lines across the page
Erase, draw more lines, erase again
Thoughts swirl through my mind
Echoing the stormy clouds outside my window
I am writing
Drawing a picture of my soul through words
Expressing my thoughts of joy and sadness, strength and weakness
Through journals, poems, or stories
Shifting through the emotions until I find one that fits
Never quite capturing the essence of my feelings
Shaping them into something new
It is still me, but it is now of my own creation
Now under my control
I direct the passages
Words flowing like musical notes
Sometimes faster, sometimes slower
Each with its own rhythm
Some fading away silently
Others boldly increasing in volume
All forming together to create something beautiful
A rush of ideas fills me
My hand is no longer mine to control
Thoughts flow directly from my mind to my hand
Never stopping long enough for me to analyze them
A rush of words fills the page
I am flying on my own power
Fueled by the energy of my own words
The pages rush by, all a blur
I close my eyes, feeling an absolute freedom
The flight endures until I end the passage
Words slowing to a halt
I slowly return to the world around me
My flight still fresh in my mind
Then I end the final sentence
Sitting back, I review my work
I smile, knowing this has been an incredible journey
And I have only to read my creation
To fly again

I think its a bit too long. I had to read it a few times for it to properly sink in. I love the way writing makes me feel, *sighs*

Good work, I like it

Well done :D

Thanks!

Yeah, about 17 lines in I thought I was done, but the requirement for school was 20 lines, so I kept going, and kinda went out of control :P

Beautifully done; it really captures the emotion of writing.
By the way, have you ever done NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)? Because that feeling you described is exactly like that.

WOW!! Okay, if you think you're not a poet, then you're insane because that was incredible. Unlike many of the poems I read, which are full of dark emotions and horrible descriptions, this poem was thrilling and beautifully captured the emotions I feel when writing. It was really incredible. Awesome, awesome job.

And you say you're not a good poet!

I loved this. A really nice change, as Areida said. Perhaps it needs a little polishing, but then, what poem doesn't? If you don't know NaNoWriMo, you have to check it out. Hundreds of crazy writers world wide kick out their internal editors for a month, and write fifty-thousand words in November alone. The one time of the year when it is quantity not quality. So much fun to do.

This is what it often leads to, on the last few days of November.

NaNoer: *writing*
Friend: Hey, what are you doing?
NaNoer: Shh.
Friend: Huh?
NaNoer: Writing a novel. Now go away.

Anyway, great poem, you're a great poet. Good on you for sharing this.

Cheers,
Eslyssa
