Chapter 4
I woke up early in the morning, in the house both Scado and Nicarga were killed. I still didn’t really enjoy allying with the Vampire, but if what he said was true we’ll need all the help we can get.
The door to the house flown open and Kalian was standing in the wide doorframe, with his entire body wrapped up in his cloak. “Finally, you’re up, we should be leaving here soon,” he said in his ever so cold voice. “Oh, and your smiths and tanners would like to see you at the entrance to this dump, don’t ask me what for, they wouldn’t tell me.”
“What’s up with the cloak wrapped so tight-” I started.
“I do not like the sun, okay,” he blurted out. “Can we just go see what those wolves want and be on our way?”
I stalked out of the house, while pulling on a shirt and headed for the place we would be leaving from. The town seemed quiet for a new morning, Lycans usually walked around, but now was almost like a ghost town. What people we saw would either bow like I’m their leader or hide in a nearby alley or house. The people who bowed to me usually had a crazed look in their face from the long torture of humans. In their eyes I saw hope that someday we would be free from human threats.
When we reached the entrance to the city, we saw a crowd that gathered to see us off or just to wish us misfortune. I hoped Kalian was correct about his information a human army. If he was lying or wrong there will probably be a never-ending war between Werewolves and Vampires till the end of time.
When we reached the crowd, two Lycans, stepped up, carrying bundles. They were the same two who offer to make our weapons and armor.
When they finally got close enough to where I could smell their breath, the smith said, “We have worked through the night to make you this armor and weapon before you left, Lethero,.” The tanner stepped up and held out his bundle, “I have created the hardest armor I could, and now offer it to you,” and letting the small cover fall to the ground, he revealed the blackest body and helmet armor, each ready to fit human form body and Lycan body. “This armor breathes with your changes,” continued the tanner. “On the back is a sheath, so the blade doesn’t get in your way when you’re on all fours. “The helmet fits both human and Lycan heads, and has small holes on the top for your ears to fit through.
What really surprised me was what was in the middle of the body armor was a blood red Lycan paw print. To Lycans it symbolized the leader. “After a long decision,” said the smith, when I noticed the paw print, “we have chosen you as Chief Werewolf of Zeinta Village. With this you and the Vampire will be accepted by more Werewolf villages.
“And I offer you the first blade of my makings; It is sharp and strong. I adjusted the handle where Lycan paws can hold it.”
I graciously took the armor from the tanner and slipped it over my head. It fitted my human body like it was made for me. Then I took the helm and placed it upon my head, and I noticed the back was very movable, I guess, for the arching back of a Lycan body. Then I picked up the sword, and as I held it; it felt like an extension of my hand. I sheathed the blade, bowed to each the smith and the tanner, and gave them my thanks.
I heard Kalian give a small grunt behind me and turned to see what the problem was. “Lethero, could we start our travels to night instead of the day, I don’t feel comfortable traveling in the daylight.”
I shrugged, “If you wish, it makes no difference to me. Let’s get some re-”
“I don’t need rest,” interrupted Kalian, “Vampires never need rest. We have no mortal desires besides hunger and the will to live.”
“Ok, but I suggest you either stay with me or go to my cabin, they’d be safer than you traveling alone.” He gave a disapproving grunt and stalked off, leaving me there with the crowd of Lycans, wanting to know if they can really trust a Vampire. I didn’t know the answer to that, but I was sure I would soon find out.
When the sun started to sink, I headed for my cabin. To my relief, I found Kalian sitting on a small chair he must’ve found outside. He was staring into space, but when I entered his thoughts seemed to return to him. “You ready to go?” I asked, but all he did was give me a grunt and walk outside. It must of meant yes, so I followed him.
When we reached the entrance of the city, no one was there waiting for us. When we started to leave the city I felt the familiar pains of transformation. The pains finally seceded and I dropped to all fours, walking like our cousins, the wolves.
“Are we now ready to go?” asked Kalian. Not waiting for an answer, he started down the path expecting me to follow.
I took a quick look behind me, at the place that has been my home for most of my life, but I wanted to leave it far behind because of the reminders of my family who died there. I did not want to leave, but I had a duty to see that the humans didn’t destroy any Lycans.
A voice in front of me snapped be back to reality, “You coming or not, you wolf?” I quickly padded up to Kalian and decided that when the time comes, I’d come back here and raise my own litter. But first I had my own mission, I had to get it done.
Traveling on the road with Kalian was boring. I tried to keep my human side in control, but sometimes my dog-like instincts took over and I chased a rat or anything that moved. Whenever I did this, Kalian always looked at me like a child who did something bad, but then he just turns his eyes back to the road and continued on.
This really half of it or 1/4, 1/5...Oh I don't know, but I can tell you I haven't completed this chapter, so if you like it keep looking for more.
