Anyone who has anything saved in WriterFeedPad will receive a PM and an email about this, but WriterFeedPad will shut down on August 31. Anything you do not have saved by August 31 will be totally and irretrievably lost.

And a new WriterFeedPad will return on September 10.

WriterFeedPad will be transitioning to a newer and better platform that's exactly the same one used by Rise Up and a few similar services. It's a newer version of Etherpad, which underpins WFP already.

After the transition, WFP will be faster, more stable, and have more features.

To export your current WFP data, go here:
Settings Tab -> WriterFeedPad

Exporting will save all of your pads in text and html format, and all of the chats for those pads.

Please let me know if you have any questions or run into issues with export.

WriterFeedPad has been shut down. It lasted for over 15 years.

However, this is not the end of WFP.

The problem is that it was using a program called Etherpad Pro, which last received an update way back in 2012 or 2013. As a result, it was increasingly unstable. The database for it had also grown to mammoth proportions: 58GB.

However, there's another version of Etherpad that is still actively maintained. Unfortunately, it's not in any way compatible with Etherpad Pro, meaning that I can't just upgrade from one to the other.

But, what this means is that WFP will be back once I finish setting up the new version of Etherpad. This will take some time, but I hope to be done by mid-September. If you want to get an idea of what it'll look like, head on over to https://pad.riseup.net/, which uses the latest version of Etherpad.
