One of the new features still in development is a dedicated page for each folder in your portfolio. This page will include a description written by you, a table of contents, and a space where readers can comment on the work as a whole.
For most types of work, this page will probably be secondary to the individual pieces in the folder. For novels, however, I think it could be extraordinarily useful.
My question is: How should novels be linked and displayed on YWS?
For most works, the new title header will simply include a link to the folder page. But for novels, should the folder page become the main page readers see?
Here’s what I’m considering:
- The Green Room would continue working as it does now. Individual chapters would enter the Green Room and leave after receiving two reviews.
- In the Literary Area, the novel itself would appear instead of each individual chapter.
- When the author adds a new chapter, the novel would move back to the top with a “New Chapter” tag.
- Readers would click the novel to see its description and table of contents, then choose which chapter to read.
Would this make novels easier to follow, or would you prefer individual chapters to continue appearing separately in the Literary Area? Let me know if any part of this is unclear.
