brought back to life by the dead man's hand
subtly inspired by the classic tale of frankenstein and his monster

I. the loneliness, it's intense, it binds me - pov of the man
II. i can create, so i did - pov of the man
III. i woke up to this body - pov of the monster
IV. being human means feeling pain - pov of the monster
V. they wanted this monster - pov of the man
VI. i burn, everything burns - pov of the man
VII. the closing sonnet - pov of the creation

There's this terrible feeling,
Quite interesting, really,
For I've been fooled that solitude
Could bring a sense of peace
Those wicked liars, what they
Have done to me! In these hours
I feel an ache in my spine,
In my hands I feel them tremble
I cannot sit by the fire for a
Moment longer, those embers,
They have each other to hold close,
But I, no one to dance in my wake,
Except the bitter cold of my heart,
I have grown to detest my reflection,
What must I do to cure myself?

Ah, a solution to my very problem
For by my trembling hand I can
Create, I can master, I can fabricate
Life itself as if I am a god! Yes,
Only now will I have a hand to hold,
A beautiful heart to perfectly mold,
She…
She will be the being to save me,
As I too, will save her,
And bring her forth into this world,
She will thank me and love me ever
So dearly and the wicked will shiver
At my power, at my love, at my
Ability to control!
I wait for the signal, I thrill at the buzz,
I laugh in disbelief
As she twitches on the table—
Alive!

It all seemed to happen so suddenly
my eyes were opened to the brightest light
the breathing came so effortlessly
a being stood nearby in ecstatic fright

He told me that my mind
is from a marvelous philosopher
and my heart is aligned
with a poet even greater and wiser

I twitch and I move and I finally rise
the air smells of something deadful
the man has told me that he is mine
and tells me not to become skeptical

The air is cold yet somehow, I am warm
This is the body to which I must conform

He told me being human is a beautiful thing
that life is a gift to this very Earth
he let me look at the flowers of early Spring
and said our love is similar in worth

I remember the feeling of my first tear
and the ache in my borrowed heart
as I glanced around at everything near
it felt like everything was falling apart

What is my mind and why does it do this
why do I think and think and think
why am I inclined to punch with my fists
why do I feel like I ought to shrink

He told me that these feelings come with life
That with a moment good is years of strife

You hunger, yet call me brother; you snarl, though call me kin.
He said, Dear one, it is merely the unfortunate consequence of our species.

This isn’t what I thought would happen
This is not exactly what I wanted
But what did I want?
I can tell you, if you’d listen
Company, love, praise
Fear, obedience, worship
But my lover always has this
Far off look in her eyes
As if there's no way
I could keep her
And the wicked continue
To pry and mock endlessly
They say the life I created is counterfeit
They say my life is one to be pitied
They say her life will end up like the rest
How dare they!
I will show them!
Regret will bind their hearts so tight
Suffocation will be their lasting bliss
Who am I to celebrate revenge?
Yet who am I to sit idle?
Destruction brings answers, kindness brings silence
They bring pitchforks and shout “Monster!”
If that is what they want, then let it be
Monster
Monster
Her
Or
Me

With a flicker of a match
And a canister of gas
Everything will soon be over
This place is cursed,
I curse the people, too
For all this anger they brought me to
For my creation, I tried
To make her truly mine
But she is haunted
Her parts were from those I’ve hurt
Perhaps this is our appalling punishment
So I must destroy myself, everyone too
And rid this place
Of what it’s come to
They wanted a monster
And their lips were right
I burn, everything burns
And I won’t be here
As they cheer while I die

The story that's told is completely true
the man went mad into tragedy
his feeble mind became askew
accusing everyone of blasphemy

The fire burned everything in wake
the village, the memories, the homes
But the fire itself could not take
the souls that's hidden within the bones

Including mine, as I walk in the rubble
I recall all of those horrific scenes
the way he killed and caused us trouble
now we've worked together to avenge the screams

Everything has gone according to plan
We walk this earth freely without that joke of a man

perceive me if you want to, i will exist regardless
