Beware… you’ve just entered the haunted retelling realm of Spooktober~
All lights out, jack-o-lanterns outside, because here you participate in a prose contest to retell your own gothic version of a famous (fairy) tale, myth, or Disney film. Have you got a song or instrumental track that goes perfectly with it? Splendid
The gothic genre blends mystery, horror, the supernatural, and romance. While many tales already have a gothic version floating around, your challenge is to retell one that does not yet exist. (Examples of tales to retell include: Orpheus & Eurydice, Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, etc., etc.)
Guidelines:
- The event runs from the 4th of October until the 27th.
- Wordcount of min. 1000 words and a max. of 1500.
- Maintain a general audience rating and ensure that your work contains no explicit content. If you post in the forums, please either refrain from using curse words or censor them in your post. Lit works published through the Publishing Center can include cursing but must be rated appropriately. Feel free to see the YWS Censorship Policy
- Claim a spot and see below for what to include in your post!
