4/12/25 - these simple pleasures of April

This weather feels like windows down
with the AC on cold, Mamma Mia! blasting
(and I along), sitting outside with a cup of
French lavender tea, enjoying some
well-written prose, mosquitos coming out
of their slumber to pester me, smiling
at the morning dew on my ankles, and
feeling awe at the green vibrance of the trees.
Despite the 8-5, these simple pleasures
of April make the days more enjoyable

4/13/25 - scattered rains

we loved the rain once, loved to
dance like the little girls we were

people change, it's inevitable
but you linger like dust on the window sill

my lungs can barely catch their breath
and our friendship didn't jump to the end

but faded to black and left me stranded
sometimes, I believe I am smart, but

I could never make sense of us, this part
of womanhood no one warned me about

because the pain of losing sisterhood
far surpasses the pain of losing something

you knew had the chance to be temporary
in the thick of it, how could we have known

that the downpour would turn to scattered rains
and we would have no place to dance

except to linger and be disturbing reminders

4/14/25 - with loss, there's gain

there is mourning, but there is no loss
i pack up my picture frames, books,
fandom figurines, and things that collect
dust. my wall is nothing but white
with chipped paint from command hooks
and little holes from tacks and nails.
when i think about it all, i cry, so
i no longer think. absentmindedly, i tape
the boxes closed, one by one, the pile
growing bigger. but with this change
is coming unimaginable love and dream,
where i will no longer be confined to a room
but a house—no, a home—filled with
movie nights, smiles, and laundry piles.
where the mundane is more enjoyable by
his side, and the first act of my life
comes to a pleasant close. this room may
become empty, but my heart is only filled.

Lovely concrete imagery in these and lots of emotions explored!

people change, it's inevitable
but you linger like dust on the window sill

^^ I love this image paired with the inevitably of people changing, because dust is more often paired with lack of care or complacency so it creates this loaded image for the rest of the poem exploring their relationship.

Lots of nice poems this month already! <3
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return
