So, next year, I'll be taking over as president of my campus's creative writing club. I noticed that there was super low student engagement this semester in the club and the events we hosted, so I wanted to get some advice from YWS on what writing activities, exercises, and events the rest of the executive board and I can do to get students involved.

Our most popular events:
  • Open Mic Night: invite campus students to share their creative work for an audience
  • Powerpoint Night: just for club: make a presentation on anything you want. Sometimes it's super random and funny
  • Blind Date with a Book: lay out a bunch of wrapped books and let all students pick what they want based on vague plot descriptions and genre

Things we plan to do next year:
  • promote club more through flyers and social media
  • make general meetings focus more on free writing time
  • do more workshops

My main goal this summer is to plan stuff that will get students interested to come and participate in club meetings and events, and also get them to run for board positions that will keep the club running. I would really appreciate any ideas or suggestions you guys have that can help me when I start planning. Thank you!
There is always something left to love.

Hosting some simple creative writing contests would be fun! The prize could be featuring the story/poem on social media, and/or receiving an illustration that's inspired by their piece.

Events-wise, there could be an event where folks are put into pairs and given one sheet of paper, and they have to take turns writing sentences to continue the story.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled
and do not be afraid.
