An opposite to The Best Worst Line You've Written in a Story. What's a brief line or excerpt that you wrote in a story that you're very proud of and can't even believe you wrote? Even if it doesn't seem that extraordinary it can still count

I'll go first with a few examples:

And then, his afterlife flashed before his eyes

(Context: character is a ghost who lost all his memories. This is the moment he finally remembers)

As Keith led Flax out of the arcade, he realized a major flaw in his already-dubious plan:

How was he going to sneak a whole cervitaur all the way back to his apartment?

Well, there was only one way to find out.

Hahaha I love keith and his inability to think about things for more than 30 seconds

So, YWSers, show off the story lines you are most proud of!!

Gentle fingers brushed against his temples, tucking stray, wheat blonde strands of hair away from his vision

Not amazing, and from an extract I posted on YWS, but it speaks to me. NO IDEA why.

I have a lot of favorite lines that I wrote, but this is one of them:

“The people in her town said such funny things, the funniest being that “He is not a man, he is a monster!” whenever a man was found guilty of a heinous crime. As if men were somehow better than monsters because they were covered in soft flesh and had small, dull teeth.”

This was copied and pasted from my story “31 Hellish Halloween tales (part three)” from my folder titled “31 Halloween tales”.
There’s a little bit of Halloween in all of us…

Hm this has to be one of my favorites. This was a draft for a story I was working on, but stopped sadly. Still it's a wonderful line!

I reached out for her hand, fingers trembling with the weight of memories we once shared. But as my desperate touch met only the empty void, I felt the chill of loneliness seep into my bones, a haunting reminder of the love we once knew, now lost to the relentless passage of time. And in that solitary moment, I realized that the echoes of our laughter had faded into silence, leaving me stranded in a world devoid of warmth, longing for the embrace of a love that now existed only in the shadows of my fractured heart.

This is something I just wrote, but it definitely fits the bill.

“It’s better to hold the light to the point it hurts than to fall into the darkness.”

Actually, I found a better one.

“Want to know how I know William understands it? (truth)”
“Oh? How?”
“He hasn’t given up.”

"Your skull is thicker and hotter than this planet's mantle. And you're not even a guy. What you're going to do, is take this backpack full of rocks and carry this bundle of sticks all the way up that hill right there, and back down."

I just- I love it. I don't know if I'll actually include it in my story but it's an idea that I'm trying to fit in.

Lily thought she was a misfit. Then she met an alien...

First one that came to mind. From my WIP.

Urban growth and its noise fluttered in through the window. Cars kept rolling, the earth kept spinning. Yet something stalled within the room, echoing through the walls and floor. As if the place's heart had stopped beating, instead replacing it with loaded quiet. The type that grows fuzzy around the corners yet struck with a melancholy that remained un-whole. Words never bend to explain the missing presence. It just is

Not a line, but a paragraph from the update I am editing right now. I really really like the flow and feelings it evokes.

also technically a paragraph, if I had to pick just one line I suppose it would be the last sentence.
Space, is a deep, deep place. Full of many things: Holes and debris and loose things that float about and are unknown and unseen to all; but, mostly, full nothingness. It is, itself an immense nothingness, an encapturing void without feeling or recompense. Like a sea, deprived of fish-life that goes ever deeper and deeper until the suns rays are but speckled, twinklings indistinguishable from their true form, and you are not sure if you are upside down, or rightside up, or on your side, and gravity is no more and you begin to wonder if there is a right way up, or if there ever was a gravity to keep you grounded. For there is no seabed in the ocean of space; it just keeps going.

I wrote it a few days (or weeks? I can't remember) ago and I just can't get over how well it turned out, especially since it's only a first draft from my WIP.

Ok reviving this with something i wrote in a story:

There were all kinds of sounds in the forest today. The buzzing of insects, the chirping of small creatures, and the distant screams of a million tortured souls.

for context, the character is part of a race of angels that live in hell to regulate sinners, and you can still hear them from the residential part
