the ever going story

It was dark and stormy night and on the good ship Alexandria the crew said to the captain "Captain! tell us a story!" so the captain said "Agrrhhh twas a dark and stormy night and the crew of the good ship Alexandria said to the captain " Captain! tell us a story!" and the captain said " argghh twas a dark and stormy night and the crew of the good ship Alexanderia said to the captain "Captain! tell us a story and the captain said "arhh twas a dark and stormy night ........."
etc.etc.etc. this story is tres annoying and great to tell on car or train journeys. yes and i know my grammar is terrible so dont even bother!!!!

It's not really a story, but it's perfect for a scary sleepover!

Very annoying and yet I've told a similar story to keep myself from dying of boredom.

I have heard a few things like this, especially from my little cousin in the car when we are going on a family outing!

did you know where the phrase "It was a dark and stormy night" comes from originally?
Ironically, it was penned by the great Bulwer-Lytton (try wikipedia...)
and the full text went thus:

"It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness."

A perfect example of how not to write.
