Mission to Mars

Has anyone heard about the Mission to Mars thing? It where in 2022 they're taking so many volunteers to Mars to live. The catch: you can never return to earth. You also have to go through extensive training all the way up to 2022. I don't think I would ever do it. There's too many people on tho earth I love dearly. Like @Calla for example. Unless she went with me, I could never bear it. Besides, who wants to be totally closed and disconnected to their native planet?

Yes! When I heard about this a while ago, I was so excited!

I always loved space and science fiction and I have been so disappointed that we haven't done anything in decades. Now we are finally doing something, and this is so interesting!

Imagine if we actually manage to pull it off. The whole world coming together for such a global event, contributing and selecting our best.

I can't wait and I'm crossing my fingers for it's success.

Same. I couldn't do it either. I have a phobia of space and the idea of never coming back to earth is horrifying to me. However, I think and hope it will be a success! It seems like it will be very exciting, and if it works... well, that would just be amazing.

I wish I can go there. I'd probably run away if I got bored of Mars to the next planet until I reach Pluto. Earth is too simple for me. Planet-crawl. xD

This is a pretty cool idea and it's definitely pretty awesome to see the whole world come together in this pretty extraordinary event, but personally, I'd never do it.

I haven't done extensive research on the project so I might be out-of-date with this, but I took an astronomy class earlier this year, and although my memory is a little rusty (haha, get it? Mars? Rusty? ...nevermind), I can remember that the planets in the solar system would not pass our standard way of life. Similar to a desert, Mars gets really hot and really cold, and the temperature differences are really extreme. Plus, the atmosphere is thin so there's radiation, and obviously the air isn't suited for breathing. The best way to come around all this is to live underground, which, I dunno about you, would totally suck, and the blanketed breathable air produced by technology would be stale. If you want to go outside, you'd have to wear suits which, again, I dunno about you, would totally suck. I wouldn't want to feel super heavy and big wearing that thing around just for a daily walk outside, lol.

I'd also really miss Earth. I'd miss the smell of the morning dew on the fresh green grass, the flowers that bloom behind my house, the birds that chirp lovely songs outside my window, the taste of fresh chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven that my sweet grandma specially makes for me, the first signs of winter when tiny delicate snowflakes daintily fall from the sky, the warm and sunny days of summer full of laughter and friends and cherished memories...the list goes on.

But most of all, I'd miss my friends and family. I wouldn't be able to bear to live a life without them; it makes me sad just to think about it. :'(

I knew that if I went to Mars, I would feel really sad and homesick when I'm standing outside in my stuffy big suit seeing the little orbed "star" that held captive the lives of my many dear loved ones. This "star" would be Earth, and it's already beautiful enough as it is, and to me, it's my home. It's not something I can just walk away from easily, and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way.

So if someone told me that they wanted to go to this Mars trip...

I'd be extremely impressed.

'Cause, really, it would take some serious balls bravery to go through tons of training just to leave this beautiful and precious place called Earth.

Once again, it's an awesome idea and I really do support it—another world? another planet? another place where humanity can spread? an interesting and inspirational journey? a huge learning experience that will no doubt help in many future projects? yes!—but it's also kind of sad to think about. A one-way ticket to Mars, deep in the pit of space, in another world, in another place isolated for millions of miles.

When the year 2022 rolls around, I'm going to give my salutes to these volunteers. :P
