Online Summer Writer's Camp

The moderators frequently run workshops, and we've done "writing courses" (in quotes because course isn't the right word... I just can't think of a better word to describe it) before. However, I was thinking of doing something much larger than that for this summer.

What I'd like to do is an online writing camp. Obviously, not anything intensive (it is online after all), but rather something that interested people could do in their free time. But, I'm admittedly not sure what it'd entail.

So, just throwing this out there in case anyone's interested and so that we can bash our heads together.

To sum up:
If you were a participant, what would you like an online writing camp to offer?
If you were a "camp counselor," what would you like an online writing camp to do?
Any online examples?

By the way, if this is done at all, it'd start on July 1 then probably continue for about 4 to 6 weeks thereafter. It'd also be free.

Workshops! Lots and lots of workshops! (I swear I dream in workshops)

But also, different types of shorter activities and games. Prompt challenges, word wars, the kinds of events we do for writing olympics, etc. Maybe a contest or two. Q&A sessions with older/more experienced YWSers?

It might be interesting to do kinds of "series" of workshops or courses, where counselors could lead campers through creating a piece of poetry or short fiction, or starting a novel, or even working through the process of submitting something for publication (though I don't know that this is something a lot of our members are focusing on at this point in their writing careers).

The Writing Gooder crew is also planning to run a sort of book club on the blog this summer, so that could potentially tie in to some camp activities.

Been to many, but I always wanted a writing one.

In any case, I think that non-formal learning always works the best - that basically means that anyone possessing and willing to share a certain skill of theirs is able to do so; of course, with the obligation to keep to the schedule if there's one, and be commited to it.
I learned and taught a great deal of random things in the camps I attended this way. In this case, surely, it can be focused (only) on writing.

I'd suggest, if it is done, that someone puts together a proper list of the participants or so - and that those who wish to lead such workshops book their name and exact number of terms or such (to keep it actually going the way it's planned)..maybe they could each also make a list of slots available or something, though I doubt it makes as much of a difference in online workshops as it does in offline ones.

I like the idea! I haven't much to add as I think Lauren put my thoughts on to paper very nicely, so to speak.

But yes, lots of activities and some interlinked workshops would be very cool!

Being a Camp Counselor is my dream! We should do workshops! Then group activities and contests!
