I frown and walk away into the crowd filled halls.
An angel, a knight, a man who will bring light to where there is only darkness, I am the Morning Star, the Bringer of Light, hail to me as I am King Lucifer!
The "accidental" fire that killed my parents blinded me for life. But at least I have my Seeing-Eye dog, Reggie and my foster mom to help me out. I feel Mom's hand wrap around mine as Reggie leads me to my first class. "There's a garden," Mom whispers, "with chrysanthemums and rhododendrums and--" "Mom, I don't know what--" "And a cute couple sitting in the grass," Mom finishes wistfully. I hope they're happy together, I really do. "Mom, what if--" "Ari, don't worry about the other kids," she says, holding a door open for me. I feel the atmosphere change, but I'm not sure how I like it. "Just--" "Be yourself, I know, I know." I don't mean to snap. "I love you, honey," says Mom, hugging me a little awkwardly. I hear scribbling and murmurs so I assume she's signing me in. I feel people brush past me and whisper. I hate whispers. "Off you go dear," says Mom. She hands me the Braille instructions and I smile. Hopefully no one will notice me, I think to myself.
