London 2012 Olympics

In about three hours, the opening ceremony will begin and the London 2012 Summer Olympics officially commence! (Ignore the football & archery that's already occurred).

Is everybody excited? I'm currently living in London and though I have some initial reservations (traffic, huge influx of visitors making everything busy/slow) I am now well on board with it all! Can't wait for it to kick-off! There's been a real buzz everywhere. This week the Olympic Torch relay came through the University I work at and it was great.

Thought we should have a topic for people to express excitement/cynicism & talk about sporting glory over the next couple of weeks.

I don't have any tickets but tomorrow I'll be heading down to Richmond Park in south west London to watch the Men's Cycling Road Race. Should be amazing as we currently have some of the best cyclists in the world like Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins.

Also, the opening ceremony is supposedly magical! Can't wait.

I'm really excited! I also have a few reservations as I'm moving down to live with my sister in a few weeks (she's based in Reading) and I have a feeling it's going to be a very long drive!

But in general, I can't wait to watch the opening ceremony and I'm loving the Olympics themed toys and coca cola glasses at McDonalds! (Drinking out of mine right now!)

It's in 4 minutes! Can't wait to watch the opening ceremony. Unfortunately, the traffic here is such a nightmare. It takes an hour to get to places that are 5 minutes away though >_>

Fairly sure that opening ceremony was the single greatest thing I've ever seen! I won't post any spoilers though as I remember reading Americans can't watch it live but have to wait four hours! But ... dayyyyyuummmm it was good.

I felt proud to be British which was unusual! Absolutely spectacular.

It was magnificent! It was quirky, brilliant and sounded great! I don't think I've enjoyed any other opening ceremony this much! (Let's see what Brazil does for the closing).

I woke up at 4 am to watch this and I'm really glad I did.Magical!
I really needed to gush about its gorgeousness but sadly all the roomies were asleep. D: ASDFGHJKL;!!!!

Brilliant! Never have I ever been so interested in an Olympics opening ceremony!

I found the opening ceremony underwhelming.
Mind you, I didn't watch it all. I turned it off and went to bed after all that nonsense with the house and the dancing teenagers.

I thought it was pretty cool and I agree with you Charlie: proud to be British for a change! The Queen looked pretty knackered by the end of it though, didn't she? And I wasn't too sure about the whole teenager/texting thing but other than that it was awesome! Especially with Voldy and the childcatcher

I thought the opening ceremonies were pretty cool and the games have been excellent so far. The Olympics are like my fav two weeks every two years.

Finally some gold medals for GB ... was getting quite worried. We're still three behind the French though. We can't let the unthinkable happen.

The closing ceremony was like one great party with a hell of a lot of great music! I honestly wonder what China thinks but I do think it wasn't the best idea to have Rio hosting it in 2016 - 2020 would've been better. Party here and party there... nothing too new
