Is there a market for this kind of writing?

I just recently started a short story and while I will write it no matter what I was wondering if there would be any market for it?

It is quite simply a torture and gore fest. There is very little plot and the plot there is serves as nothing more than a tool to bring us to and from the scene of the crime. You could definitely call it a guilty pleasure piece and it is more or less paragraph after paragraph of descriptions.

Is there any market for such writing?

There is. They're a bit obscure, but try looking for words like "gorn" or "carnography" mentioned either by the publisher or in descriptions of works published by them. You'll have the most luck looking under publishers that specialize in horror.

Also, 'splatterpunk' and 'tortureporn'. Yah, horror. But add some symbolism somewhere or a philosophical quote, to make it easier for publishers to be able to explain to themselves that it's deeper stuff than it looks.

Finding a market for it is one thing. Living with it on your head is another.

Don't forget to consider that, say if you want to make it as a romance or childrens author you probably want an alternate pen name that won't be traced - and in today's society it's getting increasingly harder to do. Especially if someone finds out that the famous author of the beautiful children's book 'Playgrounds and Penguins' does some work in torture and gore fests on the side. It would be creepy to find out. Similarly if the dazzlingly romantic author of 'Autumn kisses in the orchard' was secretly dreaming of violence and murder in their spare time.

James Patterson writes slasher thrillers and safe teen adventures. Stephen King, Clive Barker, and even Ed Lee have books for kids. A question of being confident enough to swing it.
