This is going to be fun, I say to myself over and over. This isn't going to suck, this is going to be very interesting. These people will teach you how to control yourself. It's a lot better than what you deserver, after almost killing a boy. these words run in my head like a broken record, completely distracting me from the lady is telling us. I remain somewhere in space until a short, fat man walks up to us boys of the group. His smile and his thick, flaming red beard makes me like him instantly, and I eagerly reach forward to shake his hand. He starts walking with me and the two other guys following.

When I see that he is leading us to a gymnasium, my shoulders droop. It's going to be near impossible to show off my speed in this cramped space. I kick at the floor, my sneakers making a squeaky sound.

The other boy, Ryan, goes first. Looking embarrassed, he shuffles out into the middle of the gymnasium. I watch as a lightning bolt - or a laser, maybe - zips out of his hands, so strong it blows him back into a wall. I jump nearly three feet in the air. That was amazing! Ryan shoots a few more lightning thingamajigs, though none are as bright and powerful as the first ones.

I am hopping from foot to foot now, impatient to get started with my turn. I can barely control myself enough to walk into the middle when Dr. Lane calls my name. I stand there a moment. How can I do this? I stroll over to the very edge of the gymnasium. I have about 75 yard, which is not nearly as much as I'd hoped but it will do. I bend down, tensed and ready to go. 3... 2... 1... Leaping up, I am at the other side in approximately five seconds. I turn on a dime and head straight for Dr. Lane, screeching to a halt only just before I hit him. I can't help feeling a surge of satisfaction when his eyes widen and his face goes as red as his beard.

"Can I get some hurdles?" I ask. Immediatly, three are being pushed towards me. These ones won't work, they are only 2.5 feet high. I start stacking them into a kind of pyramid; I really want to show them what I can do. When I am satisfied that the structure, which is now as tall as Dr. Lane, is sturdy enough, I back up a few steps. A running start will only make it less impressive. Taking a deep breath, I take a few steps forward and hop straight up in the air, clearing the pyramid easily. I land on the other side with a kind of rolling motion and pop up. Dr. Lane nods at me, then starts writing stuff on his clipboard thing.

I sigh, suddenly feeling bad. I shouldn't have shown off. I wasn't the one who gave me my speed and agility. I don't deserve be prideful and bragging like I am. Looking at the shiny floor, I quietly take my place between the other boys.
When you asked me what Was wrong I wanted for dinner, I said "Nothing". But as I turned away I whispered, "Everything."

"Alright," Dr. Collins said, once we were inside our own room. "Tania Wright, you'll go first. Show me what you can do."

I looked back at Nina, to make sure I had enough room. After staring at Dr. Collins for a few seconds, I just shrugged...

And morphed into the only thing I could morph into. I kicked off my shoes as my feet grew into paws, spotted golden fur sprouting from my shins. Then my fluffy black tail grew out, sticking out of the top of my shorts. I pulled off my jacket quickly as my bat wings unfolded, extending to their full width of sixteen feet. As my horns began to spiral out of my head, I felt myself blush. Dr. Collins was watching me with a completely blank stare, betraying no emotion whatsoever. I stayed in my morphed form, though, determined not to be intimidated by her.

"That's it," I said after an awkward silence. "That's all I can do."
