Questions people ask about homeschooling.

    Is it just me or is the public woefully under-informed about homeschooling?

    From the kinds of questions I get, I'd have to say that's true. I get questions all the time that make me wonder if I'm on some kind of "Candid Camera" show.

    Most commonly heard question:

    Homeschooled... what's that like?


    Stupidest questions:

    Does that mean you don't have any friends?


    (Seriously, what kind of person would ask that question?)

    Homeschooled, eh? Why'd they kick you out of normal school?


    Have you ever been on a date?


    (If a normal person was asked that question, they'd punch the stupid person out)

    Most pathetic question:

    I've heard that homeschoolers don't really do anything. Is that true?




    I mean, seriously, what possesses people to ask these kinds of questions? Like the last one: would I really say, "Yes, I don't do anything. I play video-games all day long..."

    What I really want to do is ask them where they've heard things like that.

    I've never been asked this, but my favorite reply to whenever someone gives you the "You're a homeschooler? Weird..." look is, "Contrary to popular belief, we are not cultists."

    Ugh, I hate those questions. It's like being homeschooled is in a whole different culture. They say, "How can you be by yourself (without others there your age) all day?"

    Well, sometimes I'm frustrated that I don't have any friends, but then I get over it.

    Okay.

    Do you have any friends? (Answer: I'm incredibly antisocial and the sunlight hurts my eyes, so THAT'S WHY I'M TALKING TO YOU!!!! *hyperventilates)

    Does that mean you get to wear your pajamas all day? (Answer: Duh. I sleep all day.)

    How do you meet other people? (Answer: I go up and say hi.)

    Do you have to do regular subjects? (Answer: Yo, I never learnded well grammar...)

    Do you get to sleep in till noon everyday? (Answer: Ahhhhhhhh! You figured out when all of us homeschoolers do our work--WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN!!!!)

    And the worst one?

    How many people are in your class? (Answer: :roll: )

    People always ask those questions, or my favorite:


    They give you the look!. Oh I hate that. When you tell someone your homeschooled and them or someone that heard you look at you like you are an alien.

    And then, every once in a while, this dialogue happens:

    "Where do you got to school?"

    "I'm homeschooled."

    "Ahhhhh. I see." *that explains a lot look*

    Or the "But they aren't socialized."

    Maybe society is the reason we're homeschooled....Numbskulls...

    I think it's funny that when I tell people I'm homeschooled, they say things like,

    "Really? That's so unfair!" Then they put on this terribly superior expression, "If I was homeschooled, I would be able to graduate, like, now!"

    Suuuuuure you could.

    Top three I get:

    1- How can you learn anything without going to school?
    Answer: I devour everything learning-oriented I can and remember it.

    2- Don't you miss school?
    Answer: School was heck for me. Every time I think I want to go back to school I go to some sort of camp. Cures me of that want real quick.

    3- How can you get into collage/university without going to school?
    Answer: In Canada we can take a GED test to make sure we know what we need to get into collage. I plan on taking said test. It doesn't seem to matter that some collages are looking for homeschooled kids because we're independed learners, it's like people think "without highschool transcripts I won't be able to do anything past grade 12!" Newsflash: You can get in without them!

    I've gotten some of the "aren't you lonely?" questions, but I've never had that many friends. And I don't like huge groups.


Perhaps the real rickroll was the friends we made along the way
