Alright guys. Here we're talking love. Discussing love and talking about how to live it out.
This thought occurred to me while I was busy pondering certain subjects and listening to DCtalk's Luv is a Verb on my iPod. (excellent song, by the way) And the thing is, love really IS a verb. It's not something that we just speak or write- it's something that we do and something that we (hopefully) act on. Meaning that anyone could write a post or a blog or a book or a speech or a sermon about love- and they can also think that they love to the best of their abilities when, the sad truth is, that they don't.
It's human nature, and we all do it, including myself. (in fact, I'm very guilty of it- and I'm making a huge effort to change it) We all say "I love" and we all sing about love, and we all write about how we're supposed to love unconditionally, just like our God does. And of course, human love can never be totally perfect- but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't try, does it?
In a hard situation, someone of opposing beliefs may insult you or disrespect you. Do you seek their punishment and rejoice in it? Or do you show that beautiful thing that we call Compassion? Do you, despite the fact that they've insulted and offended you, love anyways? Do you forgive automatically and invite them to join you in whatever it is they were doing that they felt the need to insult? Do you offer to do lunch or coffee with them, just for the sake of blessing someone who cursed you? (Ooooh, Bible verse reference.) Even though you know that you're probably going to be risking someone scoffing and saying no, or even insulting you further?
Are you willing to SEEM like that naive person, just for the sake of showing love?
The Bible states: "They will know we are Christians by our love," and every day, I see people noting Christians for things that are stereotypical- but could that be because we are? I don't know for certain, and I do know that there are a lot of very loving Christians out there.
Which is what this thread is for.
What stories and testimonies have you of love? How do you WANT to react to an unfavorable situation? What are your resolutions in love?
If Jesus could plea forgiveness for the people who sentenced Him, beat Him and hung Him, and for the people who cheered it on, shouldn't that tell us what we need to be?
Give me stories people. I love me a good story.
