  1. Introduce yourselves to Save Energy, Waste Paper
Okay, so you’ve chosen to become a part of this online class, now all you need to do is introduce yourself! :D So tell us more about you...

    Name:
    Favourite genre of writing:
    Weaknesses in writing:
    Strengths in writing:
Author you inspire to be like and why:
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?

Finally, welcome to the group and we hope it can help you out and achieve what you want!! =D

NB: Please take a look at this announcement which should help you to find your way around: topic58686.html
  2. Name: Lucy

Favourite genre of writing: Romance, but not the straightforward kind  .

Weaknesses in writing: It would have to be the way I word my words. I tend to babble a lot which comes through in my writing, so I do create a lot of run-on sentences, or sentences that are hard to understand. I'm also not too good with description, I tend to avoid it a lot.

Strengths in writing: I think creating characters would be my strength, and something I learnt to do well from YWS!! (:

Author you inspire to be like and why: I'm really not too sure as there are so many I like... I think it would have to be someone like Sarah Dessen, as I write closer to her genre than any of the other authors' genres I read.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? To, hopefully, help out the members of this group to improve their writing, but also to pick up on some tips to help improve my writing also! (:
  3. Name: MySunshine

Favourite genre of writing: Romance. I tried other genres, but failed epically :)

Weaknesses in writing: A lot. Starting from expressing my thoughts (like, bringing the story I have in my head on paper), to enough description and all that. Maybe also the motivation to really finish a story and not stop halfway through.

Strengths in writing: I'd say coming up with a plot. To me, it's the easiest to outline where the story will be headed. Writing it down and following it is mostly very exhausting for me ...

Author you inspire to be like and why: I don't really find inspiration in one specific author. It's more like something I experienced myself, or found incredible in a story. Often, it's also a certain song or one particular line of a song that inspires my stories, not a certain person or whatever.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? Well, mostly trying to get rid of my weaknesses and improve my writing. And finding enough tenacity (or was it endurance?) to finish a story.
  4. I'm ecstatic to see this started up, Luccy! Here goes:

Name: WaterVyper (or really, whatever you want to call me)

Favorite genre of writing: Science fiction and fantasy, though I've lately been trying romance. It hasn't been working out so well.

Weaknesses in writing: I tend to tell a lot more than I show, and I usually try to describe things that only make sense to me. I also usually make my characters' personality too bland, too like each other, making it kind of difficult to distinguish them from one another.

Strengths in writing: I'd like to think I can make original plots. I'm not really that good in spotting my own strengths and weaknesses.

Author you inspire to be like and why: Rick Riordan and Cornelia Funke. Riordan in the fact that his numerous subplots all tie in to the main plot, and that he can develop his characters very thoroughly, having their changes and 'evolution' seem natural. Funke because her ability to create wonderful worlds, characters you can sympathize with, and a magical story.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?: I'd like to grow as a person and a writer, and also help others do the same.
  5. Real Name: Jack
    Alias: Kobain72
Favourite genre of writing: Horror or mystery
Weaknesses in writing: I tend to get carried away with my stories. I'll spare you the irony of writing a long explanation and just say, I need to learn to condense my writing.
Strengths in writing: Errrmmm...I suppose I quite like descriptions, but don't know whether it's an actual strength
Author you inspire to be like and why: Stephen King, Robert Muchamore, Philip Reeve, Anthony McGowan. I just really like each of these author's writing style and how they can pull me into a story etc.
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? Just to improve my writing style as much as possible. Basically to lessen my weakness. If i can, help other people improve (but i don't have high hopes for that last one...)
  6. Name: Sunny

Favourite genre of writing: Historical and Romance fiction

Weaknesses in writing:difficulty getting the point across

Strengths in writing: original ideas and plots, plus good dialogue 98% of the time (or so I'm told)

Author you inspire to be like and why: Eva Ibbotson, because of her believable world in WWI and WWII. And Melina Marchetta, for the characters and emotions she writes.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? Well, I'm the other teacher at this class, so what I hope to achieve is to help as many people as possible with their writing, and hopefully to make friends and gain input. :)

PM me or Lucy for any questions. :D

    ~Sunny
  7. Name: Jen, JFW, JFK, 1415, Jelly, Jellybean, Jennifer, JFW1415, J, etc. etc. etc.
Favourite genre of writing: I love reading romance and stories that really make you think. However, it seems all I'm able to write is sad things - horror, I guess. About death and anxiety - all the creepy things of life.
Weaknesses in writing: I can't really control what I write about. I don't know how to make a normal day interesting. I want to write about a somewhat normal girl, and she ends up being suicidal. I also can't write an action scene to save my life - I find it difficult to have characters move quickly. If I had to write about a race, I'd automatically write about someone in the bleachers, 'cause I can't write for the person running. No idea how to make it interesting.
Strengths in writing: I can apparently freak people out really well. =] Plus, I've been improving (with Heather's help) on adding more description to my stories. And I've just started working with poems. =]
Author you inspire to be like and why: Jodi Picoult! She makes me think and seems to know just how to blend terrible situations with happy people and things. I'd looooove to be able to write like that.
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? To be a better writer overall. =]

Can't wait 'til this starts! Keep us updated. =]

  8. Name: Chloe
    Favourite genre of writing:
Fantasy with a sci-fi and suspense twist. I've written a bunch of pro-veg*n sci-fi stories as well. I kind of like romance but I'm not too good at it due to lack of experience  But overall, one of the things I'd like to do with my writing is to make people think.
    Weaknesses in writing:
-->Transitions? Scene to scene, part to part.
-->Saying exactly what I want to say.
-->I can get a little off topic when I write.
-->Sometimes my sentences are too choppy, and sometimes they have too many commas and are way too long.
-->I can show too little emotion in my writing.
-->My dialogue can be a little unrealistic.
-->I tend to use too many ellipses. But I've been working on that lately.
    [b[-->[/b]My pacing isn't tops.
Yeah, I have a lot of weaknesses.
    Strengths in writing:
I think that I'm pretty good at creating backstory and character and world building. I'm basically okay at showing emotions instead of telling them, but see the weakness related to emotion above.
Author you inspire to be like and why:
    J. K. Rowling. type of fiction that I love to, she has great character and world backstory. and has a great personality. I also like Riki Riordan, Madeleine L'Engle and J. R. R. Tolkien, but I'm only in the middle of reading all of their books.
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?
I'd like to get rid of my weaknesses, build my strengths, and learn new things while helping others do the same.

  9. Name: Phantom, Clairissa, Risa...Camel...I go by anything

Favourite genre of writing: I've always loved Fantasy. Probably because I think the real world is too dull but I tend to rant on that so I'll stop typing now.

    Weaknesses in writing:
    ~Getting from point A to point B.
~Concentrating: it's hard for me to concentrate on one specific piece for more than fifteen minutes

    Strengths in writing:
~I always have a new plot line running through my head and I never have trouble knowing what's going to happen next. It's just getting there (see above)
~I'm not afraid to research for my books...even though it gets a bit tiring.

Author you inspire to be like and why: C.S. Lewis (lovingly reffered to as Jack) because, first of all, he was a great person to be around, and, most importantly, he wrote a good story. And he's just cool like that.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?: I believe it could help me concentrate on one thing and it'll just help me write gooder...er...better....
  10. Name: Carly
Favourite genre of writing: I'll read pretty much any book that doesn't have a map in the front. :) And I really like writing romance, lyrics, and other fiction :)
Weaknesses in writing: Showing instead of telling, descriptions, making the realistic characters in my head seem real on paper
Strengths in writing: coming up with good characters and good plot
Author you inspire to be like and why: JK Rowling because she is the bomb, or James Patterson because he is also the bomb. I don't know what else to say :)
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?: I want to improve my weaknesses, get some good motivation to actually finish something, and help and learn from others.

I'm really excited about this! :)

    -Carly
  11. Hello all~

    Name:
Incognito, Incog, Inc, IT, Jenn. Be creative.

    Favourite genre of writing:
I indeed love to write Other Fiction. Lately I have been into Sci-Fi, but none have that has been posted on this site yet.

    Weaknesses in writing:
Everything. Nothing I am incredibly weak at, yet there is nothing I am particularly good at.

    Strengths in writing:
The best thing I believe I am good at is probably characterization and making characters themselves. Even that I am not very good at either. --face palm--

Author you inspire to be like and why:
One of the authors that inspire me is indeed Nicholas Sparks. His writing may not be amazing at times, but his stories can be incredibly heartfelt and usually fit into the section of Other, while is where I perferably like to prowl.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?
Everything, and all things. I know I am not a very strong writer as so many of you are on this site, and I believe if I am going to become an accomplished writer, I need to clean up my writing and make it to the best it could possibly be by any means necessary. And surely, I believe this group will help me.

It is nice to meet you all, and I am looking forward to getting to know you all further.
    ~Incognito
  12. Name: Susan, but you can call me Suzie. =)

Favourite genre of writing: Romance, of course.

Weaknesses in writing: I have problems with my main characters thoughts, feelings, and descriptions.

Strengths in writing: I'd like to say my grammar?

Author you inspire to be like and why: Stephenie Meyer. I want my book(s) to be as great a hit as hers in such a short amount of time.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? I want my weaknesses in writing to not be a problem anymore. ;)
  13. Hello everyone!:D

I hope that I can be active in this group although my schedule is quite hectic at the mo. So, this is me:

Name: Knightly in the forums but call me NIXIE.
    Favourite genre of writing: Romance.
Weaknesses in writing: haha. Many to mention. My characters are inconsistent and I never, ever finish stories.
Strengths in writing: Er... I can often make my language strong. This comes from me often writing in poetry.
Author you inspire to be like and why: Victor Hugo. His characters are masterpieces in themselves. His stories and his ideas are breathtaking. and of course, Jane Austen, her wit, her characters, I LOVE them.
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?

I hope to be able to finish a story at last. haha. I want to create better characters. People that shall exist vividly in my reader's minds and either drive them insane or make them fall in love.:) I want to be able to write a work that impacts people profoundly.

    --NiXie
  14. Name: Antigone, Anti, Cad, Caddy, Tigs, Tiggy, Antifreeze -- you get the picture. :)
Favourite genre of writing: Hmm. Other and Fantasy. Fantasy is my guilty pleasure.
Weaknesses in writing: Sticking with a story. I'll write 100 pages and then scrap it. Description is also a problem for me.
Strengths in writing: I think my characters are quite good.
Author you inspire to be like and why: Tolkien. He's so epic. I'd also like to write in the style of Anne Rice -- sort of hypnotic and romantic (not in, like, kissy-smoochy way xD)
What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve? -- I really just want to be able to stick with a story, and find better ways to get inspiration. I want my plots to actually STICK in people's heads -- create beloved characters who readers remember. :)

    --Antigone
  15. Name: Angel of Death but please call me Angel or Angie ^_^

Favourite genre of writing: Romance but not ones that are all about love. I specialize in mostly
    contemporary and paranormal romance.

Weaknesses in writing: I have hard to sticking with a plot, if that can be a weakness. And I also have a hard time finding a way to start my novel. The beginnings are really hard for me to write. Portraying emotions.

Strengths in writing: Dialogue and description are one of my greatest strengths in writing. Mainly because I don't like to just say that the sky was blue or the grass was green. If you're reading something of mine, you'll get a mouthful. Also, I am really good with grammar, though I didn't know that until recently.

Author you inspire to be like and why: I have a list. But I will keep it short and sweet. Scott Westerfeld, Richelle Mead, Cassandra Clare, Stephenie Meyer and Sarah Dessen. Those are some of my favorite YA authors and the reason why I inspire to be like them is because when you read their work you can feel the drive behind the characters, even in scenes that aren't filled with action. I mentioned that one of my weaknesses was portraying emotion and it's not in a sense that I can't make my character feel, it's more like I don't know how to display the emotion without having to explain it or describe it. These writers, I feel do that the best, and I hope as I continue to read their novels, I'll figure everything out.

What are you hoping to improve on in this group? What do you aim to achieve?: I actually am excited to be apart of this group. I feel that my writing has progressed since I joined YWS but I really haven't been writing a lot lately and I really want to finish my novel so I hope to improve the way I go about writing. I hope to achieve drive or the will to actually get a novel off the ground and finish it.

The only way of knowing a person is to love them without hope.
