Global Warming Awareness

  1. Okay, I saw this well I was watchin CNN News one morning.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPchoba-yGM

Why are there still people in this day and age that still don't belive in global warming? That it isn't real?

Also, I want to apoligize in adavance, I couldn't find the actual video, but in the video a senator was debating global warming saying it was just a myth, but I did find this.

  2. Here's my take on global warming. There was actual a good episode of 20/20 when they talked about both sides of the story.

Anyway, yes, there is a lot of gunk in the air that humans have contributed too. The thing that people don't realize is that 30 years ago, scientists were talking about global cooling! Now in 30 years, which isn't big on the scale that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old.. it couldn't have changed that dramatically.

I think that global warming is way exaggerated by the media. Yes, global warming is the cause for everything, right?

There are cycles the Earth goes through and this just may be one of those cycles. So I don't see anything to get too worked up about at the moment.

Yes we should reduce the amount of gunk (aka greenhouse gases) that go into the air. What about the amount of greenhouse gases that China and other countries put into the air (more than the U.S.)?

So I think that it's good that we're bringing light to the issue, but I don't see why some people get so frantic about it.

    My opinion.

  3. It always annoys me when people bring up Global Cooling in order to 'disprove' Global Warming/Anthropogenic Climate Change (ACG) . Not only does it give no support to that position, it actually helps the position of ACG.

The concept of Global Cooling was a hypothesis held by very few scientists, and was quickly disproved by scientists (not politicians or political commentators, who are quite possibly the largest - or at least, most vocal - contesters of ACG). Science is self correcting; when new/better evidence arises, obsolete and incorrect ideas are discarded or modified. Global Cooling was incorrect, and so was discarded by science.

Anthropogenic Climate Change, however, has not been discarded by scientists. In actuality, the majority of them accept it. Does this not tell you something?

Yes, it has been blown out of proportion by the media and by politicians (Al Gore most notably of all), but - based off the available scientific evidence - it is most certainly real.
  4. Ok.... Maybe it is exaggerated..... but what if it isn't? What happens when we go to far, and can't go back? The ice-caps are already melting.

I think claims that Global Warming doesn't exist, or that it is not a big deal, should be backed by solid scientific facts, or at least evidence.

  5. If there's one thing that can bring my temper to its boiling point, it is this.
What is really infuriating is that so many people don't even understand the actual controversy about climate change! What people don't realize is that all scientists agree that the Earth is changing in climate and in general getting warmer. The controversy is about the cause of this.
Most scientist believe that it is caused by the CO2 and other greenhouse gases that people have been releasing into the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution, a view that I certainly agree with.
Some scientists thank that it is caused by some natural change in climate. There are tons of other theories as well, but the vast majority of them have been disproved. I think it is extremely unlikely, however that climate change is natural. It is happening much more quickly than it has in the past, and the earth's temperature directly corresponds to the amount of Co2 in the air.

Contrary to what some of you have said, I think that climate change has been under-exaggerated by the media. They make it seem less dangerous and more controversial than it is among scientists.

Why don't people believe in it? They don't want to; it's uncomfortable and inconvenient to have to change there lifestyles when they can simply ignore it instead. There are still a lot of businesses and politicians that don't want us to believe in it for their own reasons, and unfortunately, they have a lot of influence. They think that it will hurt them economically to be more 'green'.
Basically, what I am saying is that it is really time for people to open their eyes to reality. As it is we are hovering dangerously close to the point of no return.
  6. I think part of it is the governments, and lobbyists as well. Oil is one of the strongest industries, and if we take drastic action against global warming, (which is going to have to happen soon) it will not be good for many of these companies.

I also think that we really have to wake up. The old cartoons of the crazy bearded men holding up 'the world is ending' signs suddenly don't seem so funny.
  7. These are all great inputs. Here's my take: my dad owns a network of sustainability companies who work with governments and all sorts of businesses throughout the world. In order to get to this point he went through years of learning about our world, and ways to save it. He says that global warming is occurring, without a doubt, the facts are all there. Now, I'm not saying that he is the one who makes the final decision on it or not, but he has gone through extensive learning on the subject matter. Even if, by some small chance, global warming isn't occurring we are still polluting the environment and producing gases that are not healthy for the earth. So, either way I think that people should be environmentally conscious, not just if global warming is occuring...it shouldn't be only about humans.
  8. Global warming IS a big problem. It is melting the ice caps which is drowning polar bears and other animals. Eventually places like New York and Florida will be underwater like they were thousands of years ago. Also, over time global warming will cause a big climate change and there will be more hurricanes and tornados and other natural disasters. Not only will there be more but the storms will be bigger and stronger.

Global warming needs to be stopped.
  9. You know, oil is part of it. But peole don't want to use the hydrolic cars because the gov'mnt is afraid they will lose all their stupid money. Everyone in my family belives in global warming. I don't belive god inteded this for us. Iknow that. He gave us the freedom to choose on our own terms. Man should crawl in an abyss and die!

  10. You can just say that because you live in a lion's belly somewhere. It would be different if you could actually do something.
  11. How can people say that?! Of course there's Global Warming. The ice caps are melting! The ocean is rising! Roar... :(

I wish they would just believe it. These things aren't happening for no reason. We are doing this, and we should do something about it, not debate on whether it is here or not. Even if it actually isn't, trying to change it is still good for the planet. It would help prevent it in the future.

*sigh*... these things make me sad.
  12. People who don't believe in Global Warming are idiots. If that's too harsh for you, go hide in the dark with all of those people who don't believe in it. The politicians who say it doesn't exist are either space cadets, just too lazy to try to fix our planet, or have a part in an organization that helps cause Global Warming. I know for a fact that Global Warming is real, and not all that exaggerated. When I was young, it used to constantly snow from at least from early November until mid March. Snow almost always covered the ground, and if it didn't, it would snow enough at night to make a snowman. But now, it hardly snows from late December until mid February. That's almost two months compared to four and one-half. I've lived in the same house since I was born. You can't tell me Global Warming has nothing to do with that.
  13. actually if you have watched the Oscar-winning documentary by the ex Vice President Al Gore "An Inconvenient Truth", it talks about Global warming and its effects on us and animals and some plants. Stop global warming!
