  1. MONEY!

So, do you use your own imaginary currency, or do you use the simple, good ol' gold-is-golden?
  2. Currencies are incredibly difficult to create, I've discovered, but yes, I do have my own. The whole "I have gold!!!!" thing is just too... simplistic for me. I like to make life hard for myself. XD
  3. For my Archer's Legend story, I ended up creating a name for the currency, though I don't remember what it is off the top of my head (it's been a while since I've worked on it). For my NaNo, I didn't have a reason to worry about currency, so I didn't think of a name for it.
  4. in my story i have a working stock market based on spiritual units of dragons. well, it's a bit complicated and i wont explain the system (i sound so vain) but otherwise there is the normal currency to go for normal transactions.
  5. In my story the currency will just be gold, silver, copper, you know, the usual, but with different names for each coin. I've heard of books that say that the rarities are different to those in our world. The gold could be the lowest with copper worth the most, or some random metal that's made up for that world, that has properties completely unique for that world. I don't know if I could do that, I'd be afraid I'd confuse my reader, and loose their interest, the smallest things can ruin a story after all, and currency can be one of them, though I'm not entirely sure how.
  6. I have a currency, but I haven't named it yet. It's these weirdo little hardened leather coins with symbols on them, one for each element. :P
  7. Spirituality in my world. It surpasses monetary demands, the whole aspect of getting into heaven sways nobles and peasants alike to part with whatever they want for leverage of past sins or in some dire cases, future sins.
  8. My world works on bartering-- there are people there that can conjure items, and any currency is quickly devalued. Food is always valuable, gems... less so. Original craftsmanship is the best thing you can hope for, though. The economy is quite unstable.
  9. If you can conjure up things, why not just conjure all that you need?
  10. I wanted to create a familiar yet new currency, which took aspects of the ones we know and love, there was definitely a penny in there somewhere.
and for my futuristic books, little chips, which are used once and then recycled, and are plugged into machines.
  11. For me, my currency is platinum, gold, silver, and copper with platinum worth the most and copper worth the least. Obviously each one is composed of it's assigned metal with the image of a dragon stamped on the face of each coin. I'm tampering with the idea that on the back of the coin will be the name of the city the coin was minted in, but I'm not really sure which cities are capable of minting yet.
  12. interesting. In Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn, the most valuable recource is a mineral called Atium, it's value is due to its ability to make certian gifted people(mistborns) see seconds into the future, making them invincible when it came to combat...so theres always that...a recources affects/effects on people could determine value...
  13. in my world, currency is the differet shades of diamond. mainly the yellow, blue, and clear.
  14. In my world for The Gifted there are two money currencies but neither uses actual paper or coins. The first one works with working credits, you have an account in which credits are deposited for each time you develop a job. When you go to the store your DNA registration number is read and out the credits you just used up are canceled off. Money does not inflate and economy cannot go into recession. You are paid just exactly for what you work, no taxes or interest rates or anything.
On the other hand, the currency used in Earth is just trading. Ever since the fall of civilization on Earth, money like dollars, euros, etc. stop existing and it was limited to trading your possessions in abundance for things you don't have. This kind of economy is very unfair because someone who has something extremely valuable and in shortage-- say water or gas, can abuse of someone who has just a few possessions.
  15. My world uses glass beads which are extremely valuable because no one has the knowledge or ability to make fire hot enough to make it. Different colors also carry different values.

I haven't gotten much farther than that. :)
