  1. TW: graphic poem

    Title: one of us

talons drawing pretty patterns on my back
grating scritching scratching up the scabs
roughing up unhealed marks from the past

please help me get rid of these chickens

    i don't think i'll be the same
i have one pecking at my brain
i can hardly see of late
the dark wings cover up my face
they built a nest in my ribcage

fluttering feathers are inside my lungs
the chickens call out 'one of us?'
i cannot hear now past the clucks
the chickens call out 'one of us?'
i have no choice i have no trust
the chickens call out 'one of us'

    so i'm a rooster i'm a pen
    i'm a nest and i'm a hen
there are eggs under my skin
    there are feathers deep within
    infiltrated by my kin

    i'm afraid of the chickens
if my thoughts stray to success
    to leaving this forceful nest
i hear them still in my head
    my healed scars blazing red

the chickens call out 'one of us?'

  2. And it's submission two for me
  3. Hidden thoughts-(Submission Four)!<3

I always regretted how we ended…

The starry nights where my brain kept wandering, lost even thought I was found
The way he looked at me, his eyes revealing a whole galaxy behind them and I had the key
I wish I had opened them
The way he would remember all the little things and requests I had, even if they were absurd
He shouldn’t have taken me under his wing, I was too young
His comforting smile and the way he handled me carefully like a fragile egg
He was more loving than my own mother hen

    I was just too naive
Too surrounded by endless possibilities and pain
Too entrapped by toxic motivation and fear
    I should have apologised

Now, I’m standing under an oak tree
    Filled with guilt and sorrow
Surrounded by weeping bystanders and sorrowful family
    I smile
At least I’m with you today….right?
I should have told him I loved him
