Somewhere by the sea, beneath twinkling skies
the music of a flute drifts out into the night;
a bonfire burning, warm and promising,
the air is singing of nostalgic times.
See, just by the water; they’re dancing:
two boys, so lost in each other’s eyes.
They talk softly, cheesy sweet nothings;
rushing in like fools, neither boy wise.
And by the burning fire, those two friends
make promises of writing to each other.
Their heads bent close; stalling the end,
naïve words proclaim a friendship forever.
Fireflies like fairy dust decorate the air
around the flute, while the campers sing
off-key and merry and utterly unaware,
innocent for a night: “We are the kings…”
And time seems to still for a second,
for a minute, for an hour, for eternity.
As it’s time for bed, the campers retreat
tomorrow they’re going back to the city. -
um, for got to add:
the above was for Daily Challenge 1: Rhyme, Camp Theme -
Daily Challenge 2: Coasters
