Niteowl's Logbook

6 posts in this topic.

  1. Niteowl pitching a tent here. Excited to warm up for NaPo!
  2. Challenge: use rhyme, make it camp themed

They say you should be warm
And safe at camp. No one warns
    You that monsters are real,
    They just happen to feel
    More like words from peers
Then deformed creatures of our worst fears.
And those words are like ghosts,
    Haunting us through the years,
Making us believe we are not okay
And we don’t deserve to be warm and safe.

Uh that got darker than I expected. Also excuse formatting I’m on my phone.
  3. Okay so challenge #2 : my hand landed on my pile of post-it notes.

I am no great keeper of lists.

    notepads, notebooks,
    post-it notes of every size,
    every scribble a promise
that things will be different this time.
a to-do list written the night before
is an attempt at order that breaks down
as my brain remembers piece by piece
the things that should have taken priority,
so arrows and cross-outs and sideways notes
    from unexpected calls dominate
    the once-neat list
that I cannot be entrusted to keep.
  4. Challenge #3 : daylight savings time, one word/syllable shorter, write in 15 minutes haha like I've ever spent longer than 15 minutes on a NaPo poem

i used to relish long nights of games,
nine pm basketball, too young for darkness
in my heart, but i grew
    up and braved dark mornings.
    as fall set in,
    i wondered, "can
    anything be
    saved?"
  5. Preserving my shorties from the workshop. Will have to work on Challenge #4 later.

    left,
    door slammed,
    Post-It note,
    "i won't be back"
    gone

    (a somewhat sloppily formatted lanturne)

    If you had given me

Quite enough to live on, or PTO to
Use, I would not have trawled the
Internet looking for a new place to occupy my
Time. But you didn't, so this is goodbye.

    (a pretty literal acrostic lol)
  6. Challenge #4 : Double Meaning

Dare to pick truth, my dear,
    to spare us this sparring.
Because I cannot lie with lies
and the dogs are wide awake and howling.

We were a pair until you decided
to pare us down to the bones.
All I wanted was to do right and keep you close,
but all you wanted was to write our closing chapter.

Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.
