Review Day Advice

4 posts in this topic.

  1. Put down any advice you may have for newcomers, good-to-know stuff for reviews in general, and the like!
  2. I am going to make a longer post here about reviewing advice!

First thing, as the Big Brother put it, Quality > Quantity.
This is self explanatory. Don't do the bare minimum for reviews just so you can get a lot done.

Next, only review things that you are comfortable with. Personally my expertise is poetry and lyrics. Quite often I do not review Chapters or Short Stories because it just isn't my thing.

Try to search for something you will enjoy reading and reviewing
If you already know you aren't going to like the topic or subject of whatever story it is, do not waste your time on reviewing it because it is most likely your review will be pretty negative or unhelpful. I have been full guilty of this before, and it's a common thing that will happen.

Review everything like you would want to receive a review.
If you are okay with receiving a short review, then write short reviews. Don't leave anything you personally would not be happy in receiving. Lay everything out there. Style Suggestions? Go ahead. Funny Wording? Make a suggestion. Some things are a choice and some things are unintentional, so pointing out anything and everything to the author will be helpful, but remember we are here to help them, not criticize or bash them

Do not stress yourself out about this, your life comes first, so if you have homework, an event, a rehearsal, make sure you are putting that before a reviewing contest. Your real life and your health comes first. Another quick thing, make sure you have the time to leave quality reviews, do not start one and post it unfinished.

Lastly, yes this is a friendly competition, but it is here for us to help everyone! If you only get a few reviews done, you only get a few. there really is no winning or losing because we are cleaning out the green room, some of us might gain stars, and we all are getting awarded points to publish further works!

If anyone has any questions do not be afraid to ask me! I apologize for any improper grammar or run-ons and such, this is why I do not write short stories/novels often nor review them ahaha.

    Have fun and Happy reviewing!
