2021 Goals and Ideas

6 posts in this topic.

  1. Hello everyone!

It is a bit late into the year for a New Year thread, but I am super excited for YWU in 2021. I have been hard at work behind the scenes to update YWU lore for everything that has happened in its stories and prep for something major happening soon.

Before that, though, I would love to know your 2021 goals and ideas for YWU. I know that it has been awhile, so if your goal is "idk but I am keeping an eye on YWU more" then that's perfectly okay!
  2. Well, I suppose I should start! A lot of my goals are admin-related, and some of them I don't think I can share just yet to keep the element of surprise :P However! I have some thoughts (TM)

    • Update all threads for 2021
      • This one is pretty self explanatory. The Lore and Story especially. There has been a lot of stuff happening in certain stories that was never updated (Aether's Heart, especially). Getting everything prepped for new stuff is a number one priority for me.
    • Get another loremaster
YWU is a lot to manage, unfortunately, so I have to balance between keeping it active and burnout. I want to alleviate some of the stress on myself while keeping YWU active. Adding another loremaster who will assist will be immensely helpful.
    • Make YWU more accessible to new writers and new stories.
Right now, the YWU seems like "Vincian's and ScarlettFire's playground" and I want to change that! There's many different ways that I will be handling this, including making the existing stories more accessible (aka you don't have to read the story to understadn what is going on), making lore more accessible (updating the lore hub), and adding more opportunities for new writers (:eyes:)
    • Prep for the Next Big Thing
I cannot say much more about this, but know that things are happening.
  3. Make YWU more accessible to new writers and new stories

This is a really great goal, and goes nicely with mine which is to:
    - Understand the YWU more, which will hopefully enable me to take part in more!

I'm excited to see what this year brings :)
  4. Kendall's Goals
-Re-examine all of the YWU lore so as to better understand it
-Become as coherent with YWU as I am with LOTR
-Potentially add to the lore myself with my own creations
-Brainstorm what I can do in YWU this year
  5. AAAAYYYY nice to see us up and moving

    My plans are to

-help with the accessibility thing by proofreading and suggesting edits to the YWU Lore Hub to make it as compact and reader friendly as possible

And add to the universe by:

-working with @ScarlettFire to add two new countries (Sankar and Belasi) to the map!
-writing a dtwh with Scar set in Sankar to explore and introduce the new location
  6. I might as well join in! XD

With this being my final year of masters and me still being behind with several storybooks, I still shan't be able to help as much as I would like, but there are nevertheless some major and minor goals I have in mind for YWU:

    • Finish the Sigilweaving Overhaul
      • This is a massive task, but it's also my only real priority; if I get nothing else done for the YWU this year, it would be fine, as long as I finish this. Currently, there are five tiers of sigilweaving. The first tier didn't need much thought, and the second one was trickier to finish, but the third one is somewhere between a quarter and halfway, and the fourh one has a few sigils, but no more than the third (ditto for the fifth). I've been introduced to D&D on the meantime, so hopefully, a fresh perspective will bring new inspiration.
    • Add to or Improve the Bestiary
      • Ideally, I'd set about creating whole ecosystems for regions, as stories love having monsters yet apparently nothing but sentient folk to feed them. However, time constraints may permit me to work on only a few creatures, so I'll have to prioritise some of the most important ones.
    • Initiate Discussion on a Spellcasting Overhaul
      • The current list of spells comes from an old storybook called The Witnesses, and though the list is impressive, there will be inevitable nomenclature problems, since we don't know how spells were named, which means new spells may seem out of place. An overhaul will allow for consistency in the present and future, but this will be as big a task as the sigilweaving overhaul, so it's really only something I'll get to once everything else is done and if my research progresses fantastically.

So, there you go! These are my plans for the year. I'll post a thread on sigilweaving either soon or sometime this week.
