   {Summer Novella Challenge 2019}
   
   At first, everyone ignored the appearance of red eyes and foaming mouths. No one could ignore the blood-drenched body that appeared the following week. That sent dozens of families packing and fleeing during the day when the infections seemed far too fictional and unrealistic if it weren’t for the growing death count.
   
   A few curious, fearless, and dangerous (or a combined of these traits) individuals decided to stay, for all sorts of reasons that they may or may not be open to discussing.

   1)
   
   

   Dr. Pallo Wurensky

   
   
   Story Role: Main character
   Occupation: Medical doctor, worked at local hospital

   Physical Description: Early 30s, medium-sized build. Ey has dyed light blue hair, brown eyes, and wears eir hair pulled back tightly. Ey typically wears old, loose clothing as ey had been in the hospital with a lab coat most of eir day until the infection spread rapidly.
   Personality: Ey tends to be pretty quiet, letting most of the other doctors or even the rest of the people who end up staying talk over different ideas, only interjecting when the science part comes into play, as ey knows way more than everyone else combined.
   Habits/Mannerisms: Not talking much, literally staying off to the side of the room when others are chatting. In addition to waving off people trying to come up to em, ey will even simply write down notes sometimes when ey doesn't want to speak up.

   Background: Grew up in cold Michigan, went to U of Mich, eventually graduated with a doctorate in medical biology, then really scrounged to find a job. Within the last six months, ey found a position at the Arroville hospital, only to kind of curse eir rotten luck at ending up in the town that infection started in.
   Internal Conflicts: Struggling to speak up, wanting to help others especially when ey knows they're wrong and could seriously injure themselves, as well as seriously worried that ey could catch the infection despite any sort of precautions.
   External Conflicts: First, of course, the infected that could kill em, as well as having to find enough food and water to sustain emself.

   Terrianne Mead

   
   
   Story Role: Main character
   Occupation: Shop owner, convenience store, Tears.

   Physical Description: About 25, tall-ish. Olive-toned skin, dark hair, dark eyes. Usually is found in long-sleeve dresses, with her hair tied into a pony-tail, slight use of make-up. Post-infection look is the same, but without any make-up.
   Personality: She’s a pretty friendly store owner, likes to chat up customers as she rings them up. If someone messes with her, or they try to trick her, then Terria can turn angry and not let herself get dragged around. And if she sees Meriel, then, she’s on yell-mode all the time.
   Habits/Mannerisms: She’ll smile at every customer, try to help them out if they’re looking for something in particular. From there, she’ll mess with her hair if she’s done something with it. If Meriel is around, she’ll start yelling and growing red in the face quickly.

   Background: Grew up in Tucson with her mother's family, moved to Arroville when she was a teenager, to live with her father’s side. Inherited the shop (used to be called Halt And Walt) after her dad two years ago, right when Meriel started her shop across the street. Terria used to be best friends with Meriel in high school, but they went their separate ways and started to greatly dislike each other once their parents got into their own kind of conflict. From there, tension has built between them, and the infection doesn’t help this at all.
   Internal Conflicts: Anger towards Meriel stems from severely missing her and having feelings for her, so struggles between wanting to protect the other and trying to hide true feelings.
   External Conflicts: Definitely not trying to get killed by zombies or fired-up Meriel at first. At least there’s a lot of food in the store at the beginning.
