I'll start this off as someone with a whole slew of characters falling into this group.
When I started really stretching my wings to read content, there were barely positive portrayals of being gay, much less being enby/trans. And even if there was a transgender character in a book, they didn't have very good odds of being in the spotlight.
In a very simple stating to combat this issue, I write enby/trans characters:
- so that readers know they exist.
- so that there's a realization of these identities being like any other.
- so that people know your gender isn't distracting you from your job.
- so that stories get out there and experiences are shared.
"Write what you know."
That's a phrase that we hear very often and this is something that I know, and want to share information about.
