Currently, the only queer people I have in my novel is the asexual/aromantic main character, which I wanted to include because I want people who read my books, especially young girls, to know that they don't need romance or a sexual relationship to be "complete". I want them to know that they can be a kick-ass hero without having a romantic/sexual partner and that romance and a sex life is not a necessary part of life.
However, I hope to be able to write more queer characters in the future, mainly for representation. One of the ways I realized I was queer was when I read a book about a bisexual boy, and having queer role models is absolutely crucial for young queer people, especially those who are closeted and/or don't have many queer figures in their lives. I want the people who read my books to know that they are valid, they are loved, and they are valid and loved and accepted just the way they are.
