prompt: radio silence
there’s beauty to be found in sounds.
not unlike the absence of said sounds.
or a slight distraction when something pesters out,
like a radio connection to your favorite p.m. channel
or a television station no longer picking up on the antenna.
which will always be annoying, truly.
yet, there’s a glimpse past the noise. or lack of noise,
something a bit hard to describe besides throwing up
your hands and drawing shapes in the air above your head.
it’s a feeling, really, like a closed window that still
lets in the street traffic leak into the house, or that
slight buzzing that stays in your ears for hours after
a concert or a wildly exciting college basketball game.
yet, the original lack of sound, or most familiar to you
is the small gap of time between new songs on an
actual cd player or when you forget to turn off the
radio station when you leave town and you hear.
silence. a blink, a slight twitch in a finger. a hair strand
swaying in the a.c getting pumped inside the car.
you can pick up on every fine minute detail for that
single moment between changing to the cd in the car
or your awesome phone that can connect through bluetooth.
in that single moment, you hear nothing and everything.
and it’s glorious. it’s what stays inside your head when
you can’t sleep at night and you’re thinking back of
past moments in your life, short as it might be so far.
embrace the silence. you’ll miss it one day, i promise. -

prompt: groundhog day
isn’t it funny,
how you can only lose your shadow
when there’s no light overhead or
when you’re hiding under a larger shade?
why are mistakes
so difficult to learn from and why
do we live the same moments over and over?
but maybe you’re
meant to live in the light.
and just accept it’s a new day. -

I love how you used details in 'radio silence' - it really makes the speaker's world tangible for me, even though I don't have as many memories of using a traditional radio or TV antennae. The choice to call it an "awesome phone" with a bluetooth connection is also really clever to set this poem in a particular time and characterise the speaker.
Your groundhog day poem is really interesting. The link between the shadow and mistakes makes me think about either-or thinking: like maybe we lose the lessons of our mistakes (the shadow), when we think of ourselves as being totally bad for these flaws ("no light overhead", or "a larger shade"). I like the last two stanzas - the explicit imagery is the "light" and the "day", but I think implicitly, being in the light means we can finally see our shadows clearly! -

And I did want to make radio silence a bit more time specific !! So I’m glad it seemed more atmospheric ~~~
I’m rusty in poetry so tried my hand at yes, using shadows to represent mistakes since we kind of always have to live with the decisions we’ve made, and that shadow is always with us.
I’ll be trying to look at the recent PAW prompts)
