    Hey everyone!

With me being back on this site and all due to my mental health improving and me being a lot happier, I've been writing again.

Remember that conquistador story I always hinted about before I left? Well, I finished it. Alvarado is over 10,000 words long. Unedited all the way so I'll probably have to fix that before I post it. Go ahead and read one of the first sections, I'll try to get it up tonight.

Thanks, so glad to be back! (If anyone ever goes on this club anymore lmao)

As the so-far-untitled story centered around Tenochtitlan forms itself together in my mind, I'm looking for suggestions and requests for what you want in the story.

Do you want to see a certain writing style? A certain scene? A particular historical event mentioned or depicted? Anything you'd like to see me in particular do? Anything you'd like to see me not do?
I'd love to form the story around what you guys want to see, to make it more enjoyable for everyone.

    Give me your thoughts!

I want to see chocolate. There's something far back in my memory about the fall of Tenochtitlan about Cortez and chocolate. d:

Well yes, the first uses of chocolate was in drinks in the Americas or more specifically, treats for noblemen and high ranking soldiers.
Thanks for reminding me, i'll be sure to include chocolate in my story.

I just was scrolling and came back to this. I'll be honest, totally forgot about your request here, but I didn't disappoint! Did you catch the chocolate references in the earlier chapters? There's also a lot more in chap 4 tonight I think too

Oooh! This reminded me to finally get around to reading part one. Very well done! Your writing is gorgeous. I'll read/review the rest come Review Day.

    Hey everyone!

I've finally found the premise for my next story, a historical action centered around the Fall of Tenochtitlan.
While characters and plotline are in the works, I've finished the research process that I go through for historical fiction stories.
I'll be sure to put more updates as things progress.

    Thanks!

Don't worry, at least one of the Admins is online!

I was gone on a vacation to southern Utah, fishing and hiking. I was searched for by Ski Patrol teams because I climbed a cliff face alone without ropes or harnesses, and was gone for multiple hours. I made my way to the top of the 11,000 ft. mountain, and grabbed a ride back with a caravan of trucks. When I was dropped off at the base of the mountain, I talked to the patrol teams who were searching for me. They told me the mountain I climbed was only climbed with teams of experienced climbers with ropes, and that tens of people have died climbing it in the last couple years!

The other admins are either on camping trips as well, or traveling to other countries.
Admins, when you get back, leave a description of what you did on your trips in the comments of this post! See if you can beat my story! ;D

Y'all are gonna have to hold off without us for a bit. The other admins should be back soon, I'll be back on Tuesday from a visit to Switzerland.

So, here's a challenge I have for all of you in the mean time:

Write approximately 2,000 words about any strictly historical topic you believe is interesting. I'll be thrilled to read all your work upon my return!

    Regards!

    WritingPrincess replied · Wed Jun 13, 2018 5:44 am

@LeutnantSchweinehund that’s a really hard question for me to answer, but I’ll answer it. My favourite time period is the Victorian era.
    @GodfreysBouillon thanks!

    Welcome

    LeutnantSchweinehund replied · Wed Jun 13, 2018 8:11 pm

Ahh, Victorian era. You could teach me a great deal about that. As ashamed as I am to admit it, I know little to nothing about it.

You got any historical fiction works, or any works for that matter, that you'd like reviewed?

    Lives4Christ24 replied · Wed Jun 13, 2018 10:06 pm

The Victorian Era is my favorite as well, specifically the 1880a

What are your favorite Historical Fiction movies?

Mine has to be the thriller from 2015,
    The Revenant.
Featuring great battle scenes and imagery, the main character is a fur trapper who's mauled by a grizzly while out on the trail, and left for dead by his own comrades.

    What about you guys?

    LeutnantSchweinehund replied · Tue Jun 12, 2018 8:58 pm

Boy, that's a difficult question. For sheer historical accuracy and incredible scale, probably Waterloo.

Although I must say - I really enjoyed Letters From Iwo Jima, Downfall and Generation War.

    GodfreysBouillon replied · Tue Jun 12, 2018 11:52 pm

Ive watched parts of letters from iwo jima, and we've all seen the angry hitler scene from Downfall. I've never seen generation war though, looks awesome but I don't know German, same reason for Downfall.
Waterloo looks great too, its a shame i haven't seen any of these.

  • LeutnantSchweinehund replied · Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:08 pm

You bet it's for you. It's precisely for people like you!

So, what time period do you enjoy most?

    Lives4Christ24 replied · Mon Jun 11, 2018 11:21 pm

The 1880s is what I've really been reading a lot about lately. Before that it was WW2, which I still love.

    GodfreysBouillon replied · Mon Jun 11, 2018 11:53 pm

1880's? WW2? Both great periods in this world's tumultuous history. You ever think of writing a story featuring one of those times?

    Lives4Christ24 replied · Tue Jun 12, 2018 11:35 am

WW2 I did think about it, but couldn't come up with a good idea.
