Coping strategies

  1. Mental health can be a beast sometime. And every once and awhile you need to ask for help to take care of your mind. It's a big, scary world out there, and it's okay to need a little help with it.
  2. Recently I totally need help in this area. I have been having meltdowns in very public places recently and its leaving me ashamed, exhausted, and just feeling really bad about myself! Thankfully my boss is really understanding and supportive, and my work is pretty flexible, so I got today off, which was a relief.

I'm wondering how long I'll be able to take this kind of work- working with kids! I love them dearly. But somehow it really really stresses me. There's one kid in particular that has my stress levels over the roof, but I feel horrible for saying that. And if I leave this job, I'm scared because when I'm not working I get depressed and just don't do anything. I have too much time to think. I really want to keep my job but it's just so stressful. I don't even know why it's stressful. It's just my brain makes it stressful. XP
  3. I know you're autistic— so it's probably some sort of sensory overload.

Do you have any stims that can help? Like, wearing perfume (if that doesn't make it worse!), or maybe investing in a fidget toy or chewable necklace? Something you can do to calm down.
  4. Sometimes I make tea to bring with me on off days or certain scented things that I like.

I do have a fidget cube that sometimes helps. That might be a good idea to bring, though if the kids see it they'll want it- but I can work around that.

Most of the time if I'm in an environment that is too busy, noisy, etc I leave the room for a bit like go to the washroom and chillax for a minute. But I can't do that if I'm the only one working.

But maybe I'll try bring the cube.
  5. Yeah, I'd try bringing the cube, and broadening fidges to try out— Stimtastic has a ton!
  6. I've been meaning to come thank you, @Rosendorn for the site link arnd all! I really liked the idea of the zipper bracelets (if I'm wearing a sweater I tend to play with the zipper a lot I realized) and anyway a friend ended up buying me two. And they just arrived today in time for me going back to work after a lot of time off! I think they'll be really helpful.

I also ordered a spinner ring which will be more discrete (I have a feeling the kids are going to discover my zipper bracelets soon and will want them) I think so I'm looking forward to trying that as well.

    So thank you, Rosey! ^_^
