So taxes, amiright?
So I have a summer job, and I had to fill out an... I9? whichever one you have to determine whether you're withholding allowances (or something).
I'm still listed as a dependent. I hear that's important information.
So with my summer job, I don't think I'm going to make enough money to pay taxes, so I said I was exempt.
But I might get a job during the school year (well I already have 2 that I'm doing, but they're just weekends so...) and I don't know how much that will pay, but let's just assume it puts me over the threshold of, "no you actually need to pay taxes."
in that case, was it wrong for me to have claimed exempt on my summer job's form?
Does this make any sense?
Note:
Here is a relevant informational sentence about dependents and exemptions:
"Since a dependent is unable to claim their own exemption, a tax return is necessary when their earned income is more than the standard deduction for a single taxpayer, which in 2016 is $6,300. "
(I don't know what it means about unable to claim their own exemption. I thought I did claim my own exemption? Or does claim mean something else?)
I'm saying right now it doesn't look like I'll make $6,300, but if I get a pretty well-paying job while I'm in school, I did the math and I
*might.*)
