  1. What's the main thing you're looking for? Adulting pro or could use some help? Lost and confused? Just looking for other people who understand doing all this stuff for the first time? You're in the right place!

I wouldn't quite define myself as an adulting pro, but I've been living on my own for two years, just survived a major crisis, and am working on building something that I feel like I can actually do. I'm a mess, but I'm trying.
  2. Hi, my name's Holy and I'm totally down for fumbling through this adulting thing with you all. As I myself am just starting to figure the things out, maybe my mistakes can help others. And maybe y'all can help me wade through the waters as well. 'Cause it's scary man.
  3. Hiya! I'm Kays (as my username suggests) and I'm heading deeper into the adult world soon enough. I plan to get a job next year at the market a block away and if not there, I'll try my hand at somewhere else. I'm reasonably a little afraid by this because this is the first time I'm going to be dealing with how to get hired/how to even see if they're hiring in the first place.

I know a lot of people that are a tiny bit older that at least have part-time jobs around here, so it's not uncommon? The market is family-owned and both my grandma and mom used to work there at one point so I suppose it can't be too hard to do that?

That'd be to support myself and my family since only one of my parents is able to work and he's not the best spender/best person with money! Generally we'd be better off with expenses and that is the reason that I have joined this club--to learn how to do all that/learn more! :3

Kays is delving into new world therefore Kays is a little intimidated but overall Kays is excited to be here.
  4. @Kays 100% grocery store expert here! If you have any questions, you know where to find me. Family-owned grocery stores are a nice place to start off, honestly unless your owner is an idiot like ours - they tend to be more understanding of scheduling conflicts and other issues than corporate stores, plus you get to know people better, plus you know the store better.

Plus hopefully there's a discount on your groceries.

    ANYWAY.

I'm Blue, and I never felt like I had the whole adulting thing remotely figured out, but at this point I have plans and I've done things on my own and fought for myself, so I feel a lot better about the whole thing. I used to always wish I could just be a kid again, but I don't feel that way anymore.

Which isn't the same as Knowing How to Adult but is a good deal closer, methinks.

(P.S. @Holysocks I always say "holly" in my head and I don't know if I'm supposed to say that or actually say "Holy." Please enlighten me finally.)
  5. @BlueAfrica This is a little off-topic from the actual thread but...I just call her Holly now, hehe. I've said 'Holly' in my head for a long time now and it's just the nickname I've stuck with.

(I'm slowly realizing how much I actually like the name Holly/Holleigh/Some other variation.)
  6. Halloa! I'm Allison and I don't think I'll ever fully grow up. Still, it can't hurt to learn the expected behaviors of an adult, should I ever want to start pretending to be one.

I'll probably lurk silently as I take in your pearls of wisdom. :P
  7. Mmmm I dunno if we're as interested in the expected behaviors as the Skills You Need to Know. Like I tickle Sir if he says "nap" (I can't explain that because I don't know how it started) and we're stupid and goofy and I sing really loud in the car...but also I do my own taxes.
  8. @BlueAfrica as far as I know, most people say 'Holly' in their head- even me! XP
  9. Lizz is the name. Avoiding annoying nicknames and people, is the game.

Soon to be 16 and starting school because that's exactly what you want to be thinking about while playing hooky and eating cake. And I've got awhile left on my permit but where do I really go. Out with friends? lol

I do not have a job persay but I do what I like to refer to as 'freelance work'. As in I occasionally do work for people who either underpay (such as one of my employers I have ranted about before) or overpay (such as the other employers who I rarely complain about).
If I do get a real job this year, probably going to be at Publix or Winn-Dixie. So woot for first jobs being stocking canned goods.

I know how to do my taxes. I balance my parent's and my checkbook all the time. I know how to cook. (I consider myself to be a good cook.). I've been trained in how to have good manners and business skills and work customer service.

So as far as most people go, I'm slightly more prepared because female family members were rigid feminists and I was taught to support myself.

  10. I'm Lavvie! Or Lav. Whatever floats your boat. And I feel that I am somewhat between this club and the Quarter-Life Crisis club, and this is why:

I'm 21 (in like three days), in the middle of my university career. However, I left home just a couple weeks after my 17th birthday, and so I really had to figure out a lot of adulting things on my own. I'm still trying to get the hang of it, but I think that people in their fifties are still trying to get the hang of it.

During the school year, I study psychology and business management, while juggling a part-time job, a full-time boyfriend, friendships, and finances. During the summer, like now, I work full-time at my job. I am the intern/assistant/flunky to the CEO of a company that provides literacy materials to language immersion schools throughout the United States.

I've also travelled lots, including living abroad for extended periods of time, and I'm very familiar with living alone in an apartment and having to fend for myself. That being said, I'm probably most lost when it comes to proper nutrition (I hate to cook, love to bake) and budgeting (because I love shopping).

I do, however, feel that I am somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to leaving the nest, having confidence in doing your own thing, building healthy relationships, and living alone.
  11. HI I'm sound and I'm 20 and my self esteem amounts to the size of a small dried up booger. I'm looking for some more self confidence if anyone has any to lend. I can trade it for a few nickels and a free smile.

I've been living on my own for about two years, slowly learning how to do things by myself, starting with the simple things like uh laundry, cooking, meal planning, shopping, paying bills, changing addresses, moving, and keeping a consistent sleep schedule. Stuff like that. I'm still in school, and I live in a dorm/apartment w/roommates. Still don't know how to do taxes really. Can't drive. Never had a job. Kinda feel like a boat out in the ocean with no oars. But it's ok
