Drinks

  1. Does what it says on the tin.

I'm mad for meeting people for a glass of wine or a cocktail these days. It's easy, it's casual and it only takes a short amount of time - plus you can do it later in the evenings when coffee shops are no longer your friends.

I drink white wine over red but would drink red - hate Chardonnay, love Sauvignon Blanc and like Pinot Grigio.

On a night out nothing beats a gin and tonic. Is the rest of the world as mad after gin as Dublin? Aldi have their own gin - Boyle's - my mum and I had it with Indian tonic and an orange garnish and it was unbelievable.

And I love going for a cocktail with the girls. But all cocktails are good, right?! I love fruity things, love gin vases and rum based drinks.

I hate beer. Tolerate cider (I like the fruity ones!)
  2. I want to start with " I hate beer. Tolerate cider (I like the fruity ones!) "

There's a great cidery near my new place and I love it (because board game nights), but also the amount of wonderful cider I've has there. If you ever come by I will take you there! :)
There's also a quaint meadery near Boy's which I've been to once, but it's starting up and gorgeous.

I love cocktails that are gingery/lemony/fruity.
Definitely a fan of mint/lime flavours - but if it's very sweet I cannot do those. Probably my favourite to make at home, would be a sangria! ;)

I do like one of my friend's G&T, but it's very lemony. Also, love lavendar lemonade with some gin.

OOH. Also, Boy and I found a fancy place where they serve Amari (a type of Italian liquer, I think?), but they have been delish!

Okay. I'm going back to work now.
  3. I second fruity drinks and wines and board game nights c;

Mygosh ywsers. If it weren't for distances we'd be painting the town red or something.
  4. Fruity drinks with muddled sweetness! <3 Few wines on special occasions, but my favorITES are vodka mixers. Never been too big into gin. Always have whiskey on hand because it's easy to get and cheap here. AND artisanal.
  5. WINE AND BOARD GAME NIGHTS. That sounds. So. Amazing. Can we have one?

I used to hate the idea of alcohol - I like being in control, and the idea of vomiting or blacking out is completely unappealing. So I've gotten more comfortable with alcohol as I've gotten older and my friends are more interested in sharing a bottle of wine than taking shots. It still terrifies me when I see 18/19 year olds getting that drunk. I wish everyone would skip that stage and go straight to wine and cheese (and board games!) nights.

It's too bad we can't just have a nice YWS night out, says the person who never goes out anyway.

I, too, will start with "I hate beer." I like a good rosé - so far, that's the only kind of wine I've found that I actually like, although sangria is okay and I can tolerate moscato. Mostly: cocktails of the "is there even alcohol in this because I can't taste it at all" variety.

Which you'd think would get me really drunk, because if you can't taste the alcohol you're likely to drink more, right? But no. I barely ever drink in the first place, and when I do it's one drink, sipped slowly over the course of at least an hour, while I gulp down several glasses of water in the meantime.

(The girls at school were horrified.)
  7. I actually went in the opposite direction of you, Stella - as far as the appeal of alcohol. When I hit college, it was this Great Taboo to dab into, but over seven years the appeals dwindled. Like you, I like self-control and keeping it together and just. Yeah. Muscadine wines and whiskeys are nice for long nights of reading or doing puzzles with friends or Boy, but beyond that there's no real kick to it.

Also...beer is...hhhhhh. My brother made it a point to teach me how to navigate my way to a proper-tasting beer to suit me, which is a massive lack of hops. My palette hates hops. There's one that gets served up in a taphouse near where I live exclusive to February, but the name escapes me. It's Hibernian, though.
  8. WINE AND BOARD GAME NIGHTS. That sounds. So. Amazing. Can we have one?

    ASK NOT 'CAN' BUT 'WHEN'

I mean all we would really need is some agreed upon time and an online board game of some sort.

... though we'd have to supply our own drinks...(LOL JK that's prolly against a site rule. I am too giddy for Friday. )
  9. @Audy I mean, Discord though now that I have a smartphone and the app so I can talk to people
  10. You people and your fruity drinks xD

Sugary alcoholic drinks make me so sick, and I generally keep away from liquor because even when I just have one or two drinks I don't feel great the next day. I love a good whiskey & ginger ale, though. And I've gotten into moscow mules lately too!

In general, I drink beer. I looove a good hoppy beer, which I recognize makes me unusual for my age bracket. The only white wine I like is chardonnay cause it's the driest xD Anyway, my partner is mostly a beer drinker so that's typically what we buy at home!

If I'm aiming for something I really like to drink, I opt for a red wine (preferably cab sauv, but I like most merlot and red blends). I credit this to my mom, who always drank almost exclusively red wine and it was among the first things I had to drink at home.

I can't handle ciders xD I had way too much ultra-sweet cider in college that I just can't do it anymore. I would give a dry cider a shot, though.
  11. @BlueAfrica, I didn't know you were on discord :o add me! I think I'm going by Oddish there.

On a related note for board games it looks like there are many variants of werewolf, Monopoly, scrabble, even Risk. I like it because these are typically free, no registration required.

If we REALLY want to get K-KRAZY there is also a version of Clue, Pandemic and Ticket to Ride apps on Google play (I think apple too) but the apps themselves cost money. I have this useless $25 Google play card for the past year that I desperately want to use, too. I wonder if it is possible to gift away apps to everyone else... (Don't mind me. I am too nerdy and too into this)

Also @Lauren2010 I am with you. There is something wonderful about a good cool beer c: I legit do not discriminate against drinks.

I'll have me some vodkas, stouts, whiskeys, rum, ciders and ales and all varieties of cocktails. ...not all at once 8D
  12. @Audy I love Pandemic! Although aside from board games there are also games like, um, Fibbage, which I super love. The only thing there is there can be some issues playing it remotely, even though the game requires everyone to be on their own device in the first place - my sister tried to play with us once and there was serious lag. Too bad, because that's SUPER FUN.
  13. I too, enjoy remaining in control of my body and mind. Getting "hammered" has never appealed to me!

I'll have half a cider with dinner occasionally on like Sunday night or something (it's peachy and wonderful). I tend to like sweet red wine, but I think that's because that's like the first alcohol I was ever introduced to. Also I don't mind beer- I'll share a beer with my besty from time to time (or rather, she'll have a beer and I'll steel sips- she's always trying different beers so it's always interesting).

Also, my aunt makes mead! I like it, but sometimes it's just too sweet.
    Board games are fun c:
  14. P.S. I still can't figure out how to find people on Discord, but if you want to find me my tag number is 2267. (My name's the same there.)
  15. Go to the wavy gray guy at the top who has the thing of "Friends" beside him, and then click Add Friend along the top bar. You'll have a pending request or two as well. I am Aley#9925
