Mostly because my supply of film recs comes from @Insomnia's twitter, some things have been inaccessible lately. I'd like to know your favorite films, whether for guilty pleasure, empowering your stances when politics and government look as solid as a cheesecake crust, or anything at all that gets a movie up on your List™.
My forever recommendations are films that've left big bruises on my heart: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Beginners for just so so so many affirmations and tear-downs of psych habits I've needed broken at the times, as well as full and powerful looks into the mores of destructive and addictive relationships.
My third rec would be from 2016's Oscar Nominee roster; my extensive reminder with pacing issues that race and gender walls have been, are still, and will continue to break: Hidden Figures. Janelle Monáe absolutely tears this lead role up with a powerful high chin and relentless sense of self; and, eh, even Jim Parsons does a decent job of being Jim Parsons--just in a different decade.

Yay, Hidden Figures! I loved that film. Took myself to see it in the cinema, it was a great self-date.
Most of the films I've watched recently have been terrible 00s action films, with too much leather and laughable CGI, because my friend and I have been enjoying livetweeting the experience, so I guess I don't have anything I've seen recently that I'd RECOMMEND as such
Glancing down my overfull DVD shelf, though, I guess some perennial favorites would be:
* Whip It! (Ellen Page 4eva)
* Inside Out (so many feels, all feels all the time)
* Galaxy Quest (because Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver are the best)
* Roxanne (an old romcom with Steve Martin. I'll be honest, I mostly love this for the bad jokes the MC tells - none of the friends I have shown it to have enjoyed it like I have, but, hey, their loss)
* Fantastic Mr Fox (the Wes Anderson one. It's so weird? Just, eternally weird. I love it)
