Condoms are still really really really good forms of birth control. Lots of people only use condoms!
I think it's ridiculous for men to classically be the people expected to have condoms with them. Everyone should be responsible for their own birth control. I've always told friends that if you're too embarrassed to buy condoms, you probably aren't ready to be having sex.
Genuinely no cashier has ever made a comment about me buying condoms (and I've made some weird purchases with condoms, like six cans of cat food).
Basically, don't rely on a potential partner to come prepared. And like Stella said, you deserve to have your sexual experiences on your terms. Don't be afraid to talk to a potential partner about what you like or dislike, or what you are or are not willing to do (and stuff you might be up for trying). Its not a negotiation, buy a conversation to set up shared expectations.
Also not a bad idea if you know a potential partner has any amount of casual sex, to ask them when they were last tested for STIs.

I forgot to mention I'm im Canada, so I'm not sure what are situation on birth control prices is.
And thanks for your concern, guys, and tons of useful info! The situation isn't ideal at all, but I don't think it's bad- he's not someone that would push me into something, and I'm good at saying no to him, mostly!
Is there a particularly good brand of condom that's good? They probably change from country to country I'm thinking though. -
I'm not sure how widespread brands are? Some quick go ogling would probably be more useful for your area. Ultimately, I don't think there's that much variation in quality.
Some are more lubricated than others, some come in different sizes, and some have added features like ribbing or are lubricated with heating/cooling lubes that provide different sensations.
If you're just looking for protection, I'd go with something average sized (most condoms unless otherwise stated) and averagely lubricated. I use Trojan brand cause it's just the first brand I bought. XD The only thing that you should really look out for is if you know you're allergic to latex you'll want to go with specifically non-latex condoms (should say so right on the box). -

@Holysocks - Honest conversations are really incredibly helpful in figuring out both your current frames of minds.
One friend of mine, I had turned to for all of the sex ed help mentioned that personally for her, she's had a lot of issues with Durex (although specifically the ones she bought from India) and has only used Trojan here in the US. I did take her word for it, for what it's worth.
It's also best to get the small individual/3pack and try the different ones because compatibility on all sides! -
Also - some types (e.g. the ones with "heating/cooling" effects) have given me UTIs. Or, at least, I have had UTIs after using them and rarely otherwise. I don't know if it's causal or not. But that's been my experience.
(Apparently the thing about peeing after sex to avoid UTIs is a myth but I don't take chances anymore with that either xD) -
Yeah I've tried to have honest conversation with him. It's a very interesting situation! But I'll have to see what happens.

I'm in a completely new situation now where my bf actually does research aswell on birth control ect and it's AWESOME c:
But I just wanted to talk about how ridiculously frustrating it is trying to find a good birth control. I'm Jewish, which means I gotta find one that's not got animal products in it that I can't have (surprisingly difficult- I thought it would be easier considering the amount of Vegans these days and such, but apparently not). So then we thought, well, how about the patch? That could work! But then, whilst reading through the list of medications that interfere with the patch - regarding effectiveness - I discovered that the herbal supplement I take to counteract mood-swings and depression symptoms is one of those medications that interfere with the patch! Dx
But then we did some more research, found a pill form that I can have, but then discovered that pretty well ALL the birthcontrol stuff doesn't work well with that herb (St. Johns Wort if you're interested in knowing). So. Now we're trying to get ahold of my doctor to see just how much St. Johns Wort would interfere (I take it as needed, so like when I'm feeling blue or the world seems impossible- so I'm HOPING that that means that it would be okay. AKA if I take St. Johns Wort one day, then a couple days later it'll be okay. Also they say just to use condoms while you're taking St. Johns Wort, so, okay.) So hopefully the doctor will have some insight.
