  1. Okay, today I wrote 204 words.

“Gee,” Willow muttered, “Just fill me with confidence, why don’t you?”

“I’d suggest extra session with Gabriel,” Raphael continued as Willow gave a large groan. Anyone but Gabriel! “She needs to put on the extra muscle soon as possible. If her magic returns before her body is physically able to comandante it, she’ll be in trouble. Other than that, there’s no sign of illness, or deficiency, she doesn’t suffer from the same problem her mother had.”

The screen light faded away and Willow perched herself on the edge of the sofa. “Thank you, Raphael, I’ll let Adonai know,” Tesia said, her eyes focused on the distant sky.

She turned towards the desk just as a white light flashed into being behind it. As the light faded, Adonai appeared. He looked about the space and grinned, “I told you so.”

A gush from the door sent Willow’s hair flying across her face, “Ah, shut up, old man.”

A man, who looked far too much like Gabriel for Willow’s liking, leaned against the outside doorway. His wings drooped behind him, sweat beading at his temples. “Well, you shouldn’t bet on something, you don’t have a chance of winning,” Adonai said with a sarcastic air of arrogance.
  2. Okay, today I wrote 229 words.

“Michael,” Tesia groaned, “What have you been doing?”

“Tesia, my sweet angelic angel,” he said, falling to his knees in front to her, “I raced Adonai to get back here, back to you,” he exclaimed, kissing her hand.

Tesia coughed, trying to hide her chuckle. There was a glint in her eyes that Willow hadn’t seen before. She struck Willow as someone cool headed and hard to please. Yet here was this chaotic man sweeping her off her feet. Was this what Raziel meant by Michael bringing out Tesia’s softer side. It was clear to her that they were a couple. A smile tugged at Tesia’s lips despite her best efforts, “You’re an idiot.”

Michael winced, “That wasn’t the answer I was hoping for. In my defence, my love, I was just trying to cheer up Adonai.”

“That bad…” Tesia said in that soft, careful tone she had used on Willow.

Adonai didn’t reply but gave a terse nod, the playfulness from earlier completely wiped clean. Willow wondered what had happened to make such a carefree God like Adonai bogged down by such heavy emotions. She knew she should ask; she was technically his equal but how would she be able to help even if he told her. She had no power to help. To boot she was immature, irresponsible and unreliable. Even she didn’t want to trust herself.
  3. Yesterday I wrote 389 words.

“I’m so sorry about your loss, Mr Babka. Will you and Faith-?”
A metal shovel grounds against the rocky dirt as man and woman in black pass by me. They squeeze my shoulder and offer words of comfort in low, soft voices like they’ll be able to ease my pain. No one can bring my mother back. The dirt hits the wooden top of the coffin. I try not to imagine my mother’s still, cold body inside. I turn away but the sounds of the shovels haunt the steps I take away from the grave.
    “Faith!”
A hand grabs at my arm. I wince. It’s tender. By the grip, like an iron band across my skin, I know exactly who stands behind me.
“Yes, father?” I say, twisting my head to look back at his face. I wonder how the others around us perceive us. A loving father comforting his bereaved daughter? I wonder if they saw the shaking of my hands, the bruises beneath the long shelves of my dress. There is a coldness in his blue eyes and a harsh set in his jaw. He is the reason we are here with the clouds hanging heavy with rain above us and my mother’s body sealed beneath the earth. It’s what he wanted and so he got it. Just like everything else in his life.
He, and the death of my mother, are the reason I fear heading home tonight. She had been my last defence against my father.

I scooted back in my bed, my back hitting the back board. I pull up the covers around me as if it could protect me from this strange man. “How did you get in?”
The man didn’t reply for a few seconds. His soft foot falls make my muscles tense. Brown eyes gaze over the empty shelves. “Through the roof of course!” he exclaims suddenly. A long skinny finger flicks up towards my undamaged roof. He doesn’t look at me, continuing to take in my room, “The window was locked so I thought it’d be easier.”
“I don’t know if you know this but that’s not normal.”
“Is this not normal either,” he says, pointing to my twisted arm, “Let me help you with that.” He takes my arm, and despite my hiss of pain, brings it towards him.
  4. Okay, today I wrote 206 words.

“Are you alright, my love? You look at little pale,” he says, a hint of sharpness in his voice as he digs his fingers into my tender arm. I quiver under the pain that shots pins and needles down the length of my arm.
    “Mr Babka?”
My father’s grip loosens. He smiles at the black-clad women with the neckline that plunges alarmingly low. I don’t think she brought that for a funeral.
She totters closer to my father on six-inch heels and flutters her lashes. She is young enough to be my sister. “The group is moving over to the venue. Will you be staying here for a bit?”
“Actually, Emma,” my father pulls me to his side, his cold against my heated skin, “Fai isn’t feeling very well. I think the grieving is hitting her hard right now, so I’ll be taking her back. I may join you later if she starts feeling a bit better.”
“Oh, my dear,” Emma coos at me like I’m a two-year-old baby who’d grazed her knees, “It must be such a hard time for someone so young.”
It will only get worse; I want to say but hold my tongue. My father’s grip intensifies with every passing second.
  5. Okay, today I wrote 142 words.

When Faith’s mother dies, life loses it last remaining scraps of hope. Her life will be over in the next hours. Without her mother’s protection, she has no choice to succumb to her father’s wrath.
    But hope isn’t lost…
In pain, she calls out for help. Just when she has given up hope a strange man floats through her roof!
Join Faith and Emanuel on their journey across the seven seas and their own hearts. What will be waiting for them at the ends of the world?

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
I stare into nothing, numb against the cold that prickles at my bare legs, or the mud the squelches around my black shoes.
  6. Yesterday I wrote 217 words.

"Michael," Adonai said as the view before him materialised through the white light, "Tell me what's happened?"

Michael's words sent chills down Adonai's spine, "A killing," was his stark response. He stepped aside; his jaw held so tightly his bones jumped through his skin. Adonai paled as the full horror of what Michael had been hiding came into view.

Speckles of blood across the walls and floor turned into pools still gushing from small form leaning against the wall. Sharp teeth peered out from the mangled remains of the Kattan's face. Their robes were dyed a wet red in varying shades. It had once been white, purple and gold. The robes of one of his senior members in his army.

"A demonic attack?" The wounds looked almost like a animal attack but there were no aggressive wild animals in Sarana. The only possible option Adonai could think of at that was a demon. They could come in any shape or form and animal forms weren't uncommon.

Troubled eyes watched Raphael as he kneeled beside the body, his wings raised behind him to avoid the blood. His eyes were closed, blue healing lights slipping from his raised palm. "Possibly but it could also be to do with the civil war. Raphael should be almost done with his search."
  7. Okay, today I wrote 299 words.

The archangel straighten back up. Clicks sounded from his back as he arched his back. He gave a groan. The sound stuttered to a stop when Raphael spied Adonai from the corner of his eye.

"Lord Adonai!" Raphael bowed deeply, his face flushed a bright scarlet.

"At ease, Raphael," Adonai said with a sigh, "this will be a difficult day for all of us."

A look of deep thanks passed across Raphael's face but it was quickly gone. Now wasn't the time when one of their own lay brutally murder in front of them.

"What did you find, Raphael?" Michael said, bringing them back to topic.

"It was definitely a demon attack. There are traces of demonic taint across the victim. Her name is Gena and her death was very recent, she was still warm when we got here. The attack, however, could have occur earlier due to the wounds inflict. She wouldn't have die quickly..."

Recognition widens Michael's at the women's name. He bows his head, eyes closing in respect for a life cut short. "Who was she?" Adonai asks when he opens his eyes again.

"Gena was Commander Nalek's daughter. She was only a child, would have turned 14 next month."

"Michael,” Adonai turned away from the young girl’s body. Yet again Lucifer had taken another life that Adonai had failed to protect. “I need you to gather the rest of the Kattens in the meeting hall. I need answers."

"But wasn't it a demon attack?"

"It was but for a demon to enter through the wards without my knowledge had to be done from the inside.” Adonai turned to stare directly at Michael, hoping to get through to his light heart archangel the severity of the situation. “One of our own set that demon on Gena."
  8. Yesterday I wrote 174 words.

Before my eyes the bruise turning a sickly brown-purple on my arm fades into yellow and then into nothing. Movement beneath my skin alerts me to the fact that the pain has suddenly disappeared. My whole body feels lighter. The aches and pain from years of abuse have disappeared.

    "Thank you?"

"You're welcome," the man says with a smile. "My name is Emmanuel Parker and I'm here to help you like my master helped when I was young. I want to take you away from this hell hold so you can start healing."

He holds out his hand to me. I eye it with an eager beat jumping in my heart. I could be jumping from the pan and into the fire but when I think of the pain to come if I stay... anything would be better than that. Over the years I have learnt to read people, read their eyes. My father's eyes are cold and pitiless when they turn to me. Emmanuel's are vibrant, life and love dances with them.

Willow gave him the best smile she could muster which she was almost certainly sure was just a weak wobbly line. She heaved herself up from the sofa. A clear image of her curled up in a warm bed alone was beckoning her. Large crowds of people had never been much of her thing anyway. It didn’t help when said crowd of people where supernatural and you were meant to fit in with them as supernatural yourself.

“I should get going,” she said, “Uri’s probably wondering where I am.”

“Ah! That reminds me,” Adonai’s expression brightened. He knelt beside his desk and rummaged around an overly stuffed draw of random Knick knacks. A tartan patterned rubber duck rolled across the floor like a tumbleweed. It fit perfectly with the silence that permeated the room as it slowed to a slow by Willow’s foot. Adonai continued on obvious to his bath companion’s travels and withdraw a large, dulled gold key. “Tesia had a room made up for on the 28th floor. Save you having to share with Uri. You shouldn’t be too far away from him if you need anything and the archangels and myself are here too.”

Hisses and murmurs ran through the crowd like waves crashing against the rocks. The Kattens didn't know the specifics of the meeting. They had, however, heard of the death of Nora, general Malek's daughter. The specifics, they didn't know, the reason they most certainly did, Uri thought with a chuckle. Adonai would pander them some innocent excuse as to why he summoned only them.

Uri knew without being told that the God suspected one of them was behind the attack. It could have been one of the other races framing them but there was no dislike of the Katten. The Kattens had enough of than in spades between them. Fractions in their mother world shouldn't affect their lives here but it hard when tension ran so highly. Family members were getting caught in the fray and demon levels were at all time high. So many of the Kattens lived in the Andromeda galaxy, even some of the other races had to help to fight the increasing tide. It was why the room was practically empty. Clusters of Kattens random rows across the seating. Even here the factions were clear.

Uri shook his head, leaning ever more heavily against the back boards. He hoped this wouldn't be a long meeting. The day had been too long already. When Adonai had asked him to keep a look out during the meeting he'd almost refused. Willow's accusing face had filled his face and without thought he'd said yes.

He loved her, you don't spend 8 million years and not love someone, but he couldn't deal with her accursing red eyes. He had to get out of the stuffy room, and this had been the perfect excuse. Now he was here he wished he was back on his room. He fingers twitched for a cigarette. A packet poked at him through his back pocket but just as the thought crossed his mind Adonai walked into the stage. The room, which there had been a buzz of anxious chatter, fell silent. Everyone held their breath. They waited. The silence became so heavy, weighing down on him like a thick mist.

Adonai's curled around the podium like an eagle clutching to its branch. His age-old silver eyes darkened to dusty coals.

"Our enemy is the God of Chaos and all his dark creatures. We all know this, it is our creed, our life’s work to keep this evil at bay," his eyes passed across the room. A few shuffled, the sounds intense in the silence. "Yet we are here because a person in Sarana has let a demon pass through the barrier, allowed it to kill one of our own. I don't wish to place blame on my people, but this may not be a standalone attack. I also don't know why this attack happened, but I do have an idea. The other races aren't present in this meeting for we have ruled out their involvement. The civil war between your homeland people has gotten out of hand. You are Saranians before your motherlands."

The Kattens faces had turned to stone, expressions frozen in deep furrows across the brows and tight lines across their lips. Their expressions all showed the same thing. Uri wouldn’t be getting any information out this gathering. Those cigarettes were really calling his name.

Uri crouched outside the tower, hidden under the rose pergola. His face lit up with orange gold glow of fire. Its flickering flames cast deep shadows along the tanned contours of his face. He placed the cigarette to his lips. A puff of swirling filled the air.

The meeting had ended only minutes ago, the hours had ticked on. Uri had almost lost the will to live as the Kattens had began to bicker between themselves. Adonai had let them argue, watching them with hawk-like eyes.

“I thought I would find you here,” a voice whispered in his ear. Arms wrapped around his waist and a lean body pushed against his back.

“Gabriel,” Uri groaned. Despite his protest, he leaned into the archangel’s warmth.
