   Kenning

   
   
   A kenning is a compound expression of two words that have a metaphorical meaning. Some examples:
   
   Ankle-biter: a very young child
   Winter's blanket: snow
   War needles: arrows
   
   LINK TO THE GAME
   
   Kennings are a powerful poetic tool for condensing whole ideas into powerful, concrete nouns and verbs.
