The Fragments

3 posts in this topic.

  1. In 2025, mysterious objects known as fragments appeared across the world, radiating a power unknown to contemporary science. For a time, scientists from across the world prepared to work together and figure out the mystery behind the Fragments.

Then books - titled The Edicts - were also found, containing details of procedures that could be used on these Fragments. Each procedure was different from the other, and none of them seemed particularly scientific. There are thousands of books, scattered around the globe.
When these instructions were followed, the people who performed them Bonded themselves to the Fragments. They were granted magical abilities that lasted for the rest of their life, like their Bond. Only if they died, their Fragment could be Bonded to someone else. Some of these people choose to use their powers for public good; others direct it towards personal gain. The world was chaotic for a time, and remains so to an extent.

Nations started trying to gather Fragments and the Bonded. Vigilantes took justice into their own hands. Criminal lords rose to terrifying power. The world is shaken.

But there happens to be one particular corporate, which is trying to monopolize Fragments and kills the Bonded to acquire theirs. It is called Horizon. With the powers it employs, Horizon now controls most of Eurasia (indirectly.) Horizon's agenda is to establish world peace and a single global superunion of nations; but whether they care about people or power remains to be seen. Currently, they are after a man who Bonded himself to the strongest Fragment of all; he goes by the name Doomsday. His Fragment, the Singularity, is a pendant shaped to look like a model of an atom. It gives him the power to release colossally strong bursts of heat equal to the force of a nuclear bomb once in six hours.
His motives are completely unknown, but Doomsday wiped out eight cities. Nobody knows why. Various groups around the world are trying to find him. Some want to use him; others want to kill him.

You are someone who cares about the current situation. You aren't going to sit back and watch it roll out.
But what you choose to do is your choice.

    THE RULES AND FURTHER INFORMATION:
    Spoiler
    1. Your character can be Bonded or not. The choice is yours. You can also have multiple characters.

    2. An individual can only be Bonded once in their lifetime, to one Fragment; after all, the Bond can only be broken by death. that means you get to pick exactly one ability per character.

    3. The Bonded are superhumans; they heal relatively quickly and are physically much stronger and faster than average humans. Physical attributes among the Bonded vary, though. Some tend to be more adept than others.

    4. Your Fragment has to be something that can be carried. Don't make it a chair or lunchbox, though XD

    5. In fights, don't make your character OP. Let them take a few hits at least. Give them some kind of weakness.

    6. Don't control other people's characters.

    7. Have fun!

  2. Spoiler
I’m going to be using twins since I could have more than one character. If it becomes a problem, just let me know!

    Character 1:
    Name: Lily Thompson
    [b] Status: Bonded
    [b] Fragment: Floral headband
    [b] Power: Necromancy
[b] Gender and pronouns: Female, she/her
[b] Appearance: Obsessed with lose, floral shirts paired with overalls. Her hair is pretty long, but is always in two French braids paired with her Fragment. Her hands are usually stained with paint or ink.
[b] Personality: Known to be a very bubbly, cheerful person. Very talkative and open. She tends to bury her problems instead of facing them, preferring to pretend everything is fine than admit that she isn’t happy.
[b] Goal: She thinks she can be the first person to figure out Doomsday’s motives. She has a feeling he has a reason to do what he does that deserves to be heard.
[b] Strengths: She has spent time honing her powers, becoming quite powerful.
[b] Weaknesses: Hesitates in the face of the fight, known to freeze up and fails to see when conflict is necessary.

    Character 2:
    [b]Name:
    Scarlett Thompson
    Status: Bonded
    Fragment: Occult pendant
Power: Empath (ability to feel and influence other’s emotions)
    Gender and pronouns: Agender, they/them
Appearance: Goth™. They constantly dye their hair and try a new color every time. Right now it’s a dark teal. Dark makeup and dark clothing. Blue eyes, their hair is cut a bit above their shoulders. They have a pretty simple nose ring. Wears her Fragment, even when sleeping.
Personality: Sarcastic and cynical. Prefers to be alone rather than around people. Very tired and has no patience for anything. They find it easier to push people away than letting themselves be vulnerable and putting themselves in the position to get hurt.
Goal: To prevent her sister from getting killed. Doesn’t really care about Doomsday, just Lily.
Strengths: Trained how to fight because of their interest in joining the military.
Weaknesses: Tends to think they know what’a best and can very rude at times.
  3. (Ooh, they're great! Just a quick headsup, though; most Bonded are pretty well known, but you can choose for these two not to be popular/known if you want. Scarlett will probably be able to hide their power pretty well, but necromancy might cause some rumours to fly around. Still, very cool abilities :D
OH AND ONE MORE THING I FORGOT
The Bonded can summon their Fragments into their hands. They take a few seconds to appear, but yeah. So no worries about losing them. :P )
Do you want to give them callsigns/pseudonyms?)

(And here are my characters! I stole your format because it was perfect)

    Spoiler
Name: Helena Blackwood (Her name is unknown; she goes by her pseudonym, Killswitch.)
    Status: Bonded
Fragment: A jet black ring studded with a single ruby.
Power: Cell destruction; she can transmit electric signals to the cells of living beings that command them to immediately break down. Her radius is one meter. If she isn't touching them, she has to aim and release bursts of her power through her hands. They appear as grey flashes of light. However, her power can be repelled if her opponents are dressed completely in rubber or any other electric insulator.
    Gender and pronouns: Female, she/her
    Age: 21
Appearance:She's a tall, slender girl with pale skin. Her eyes are a very pale yellow. She has high cheekbones and crimson lips. Her hair is jet black and slightly wavy, falling freely halfway down her back. She wears a coat that looks like this: https://kiltzone.com/wp-content/uploads ... cket-6.jpg and keeps a hood and covid-style mask to help hide her identity.
Personality: Cold and generally aloof. She doesn't interact with people much if she can help it; but that's because at heart, she's actually worried that she'll hurt them. If she accidentally uses her power, her loved ones could die. So in a sense, she's also pretty self-sacrificing.
She has exactly one friend: Kaen. She's kinda adopted him as her little brother, and he's the only one who can actually talk to her.
Goal: Helena does not believe in a superhuman society. She thinks that the Bonded have too much power, and everything resting in their hands is absolutely not a good thing; so it's her mission to kill any Bonded she thinks is misusing their power. She's strongly against Horizon, but put that aside in favour of hunting down Doomsday and killing him to prevent further destruction. That's her first priority now.
Strengths: She doesn't let her emotions get in the way of rationality and plans things out very well. She's brilliant at picking locks. And of course, her power makes her hard to take on up close.
Weaknesses: She is physically rather weak. She can't manage hand-to-hand combat at all, and gets tired rather easily due to lack of exercise. One way she can be emotionally incapacitated is by bringing up her first boyfriend, whom she accidentally killed. [i]His name was Asahi, for further reference[/s]

    Name: Kaen Kanavin
    Status: Human
    Fragment: None.
    Power: None.
    Gender and pronouns: Male, he/him
    Age: 19
Appearance: Shaggy black hair that falls to the base of his neck, hawkish nose, sharp and clean-shaven jawline, intense dark brown eyes. Well-built and fast on his feet. He's 5'11.
Personality: A little quiet and guarded around people he doesn't know. He's not cold like Helena, though; he's just a little reserved. Politeness comes easily to him. Like Helena, he's scared to form new friendships, but it's because he thinks he'll be abandoned eventually.
Goal: Wiping out Horizon. His parents were both Bonded, and killed by several of Horizon's hitmen to acquire their Fragments. He was spared because he was only seven at the time, but thrown into the streets, where he nearly died before Helena found him and let him hang around.
Strengths: Quick at gathering information and a very skilled fighter at hand-to-hand and with handguns. (He received training using Helena's contacts.) He's also an excellent actor.
Weaknesses: Kaen is quite reckless in almost everything he does. While he tends to follow Helena's lead, when left to his own devices he doesn't think of plans; he prefers to barge in with guns blazing. This is mostly due to him being obsessed with trying to prove to himself that he's worth the second life Helena gave him.
