Aeyis

  1. Introduction: Hey there! I'm Sae, and this thread is for my storybook Aeyis. I have most of the storybook planned, much to my own surprise, but there's still some things that I need to iron out and I'm sure that this thread will help me do this.

    Link: Aeyis

Brief Description of Story: In our world, there's a group of online roleplayers in a story called Aeyis. They each come from different walks of life and have all sorts of different characters, but are all led by a man called Keith Quinn. Keith approached them two years ago and invited them to roleplay with him. Keith's leadership extended into the story, where he played the role of a priest named K.

A year prior, one writer - Arthur Croft - dropped out of the story without any warning. It's only when everyone else gets stuck in Aeyis as their characters that they find out that Arthur ended up there as his character, Arawn, and has been spending that year with a mysterious shadow monstrosity named Riken.

To make matters worse, no one knows where Keith went.

So until they figure out how to get back home, they'll have to pretend to be their characters.

    Story's Genre: Fantasy

    Setting: Aeyis

Preferred Type of Questions, If Any: Since this is a storybook, I'd prefer questions on the plot rather than the characters! But I don't have any problems with being asked about Riken, Arthur, Arawn, Keith, K, or Kartiel, since they're all my characters.

Other: If you're in this storybook, I heavily suggest avoiding this thread like the plague. There's going to be lots of spoilers that will make any secret evil plans I have not as evil as they could be without you knowing them ahead of time.
  2. Uhhhh okay so I don't do SBs and I'm not sure if I can ask helpful questions, but I guess Imma try. Plot instead of characters. Okay. Yes. I can do this.

See this is tough because I don't know like - like I want to ask if the characters are going to wander Aeyis at random and accidentally stumble into information, but this is a SB, not a novel, so...yes??? Because it's going to be participants controlling the characters rather than, like, a novel with a set plot...

I'll just keep rambling until questions of some sort come up, probably.

So the primary objective when the players end up in Aeyis is, first, to find Kieth, right? Like you didn't mention that, but I'd guess that's their first objective since he invited them into the game in the first place and seems like their best bet of getting home.

(I'm guessing he'll also turn out to be behind this weirdness.)
  3. Rambling to come up with questions always sounds like a good idea! I do have some idea of a set plot, but it's not too set so everyone can have freedom with what their characters do.

Yup! That's the first objective. The main reason they're looking for Keith is because they're worried about him, although initially they were worried because they had no idea what Aeyis is like. Luckily, Arthur's there to show them the ropes and do at least a little bit of explaining.

And you're right on that! He is, though not in the way that one would guess.
  4. Oooooh, intriguing! Well, if you don't mind spoiling things, how is Keith involved, in terms of being behind things in some way?
  5. @BlueAfrica, I don't mind spoiling things at all! I absolutely love talking about the plans I have for this, and especially the ones that I have for Keith.

So in my first post I mentioned a trio of people with names that start with K. There's Keith, the millionare that runs the roleplay. There's K, a priest character that Keith writes for that serves the goddess Illquaria. Then there's Kartiel, the god of souls who has only come up in one post so far but has been the starring antagonist of a roleplay I'm running called The Lost City.

(As a quick side note, this Kartiel is a different one than the one you've been hearing about in The Three Lockets. I can't remember if I ever formally introduced him, but he's also not the Kartiel in Ace of Hearts.)

My guess right now is that everyone expects Keith to be behind it in an SAO-style way. (The creator of the game in Sword Art Online is the one who traps them inside the game for reasons he has conveniently forgotten.) Since he's a millionaire, he can easily fund strange technology that can transport people into a fictional world.

At least, they think it's fictional. The world is actually very, very real, and they've been transported into the bodies of people they created on their own. Keith Quinn's real name is Kartiel. Like I mentioned, Kartiel is the god of souls. He can easily take one soul from one body and put it in another, something that I've already shown in The Lost City. Basically, he took the souls of the roleplayers out of their bodies and put them in the bodies of their characters.

He did this once before, but let's just say that it went horribly wrong and he's still trying to deal with that failure. The purpose is to entertain the god that he works for. I'm still trying to come up with the god's name, but I do know that he's the god of realities.
  6. Is this based off of SAO? (I'm sorry that was the first thing my weeb mind went to. I'm aware that its very hard to talk about being stuck in a game without SAO coming up)
  7. @zaminami, I'd say very very loosely! SAO's what got me into this type of storytelling in the first place, and is probably responsible for my decision to have Keith behind it all. But, other than that, there's not that many similarities.
  8. Really? That's interesting (I'm on mobile so I'm not typing much)

Also, is Keith based off of Keith Kogane? (Wow what a weeb I am)
  9. @zaminami

I'm not going to lie, I named him Keith because I was watching Voltron at the time and it was one of the first names I could think of! He's not specifically based off of Keith Kogane, but I would like to think that Keith/Kartiel would be an avid fan of Voltron. (He's already canonically a fan of Star Wars, so he's definitely a lover of sci-fi.)
  10. Oh YAS sci fi and Star Wars!

So um how do you plan on incorporating that into your story?
  11. Tell me more about Riken!
  12. @zaminami, it probably won't really come up in this, unless Kartiel specifically makes a comment about it at some point! (I am planning on having Kartiel show up at some point as Keith again, so that's likely when the references will happen.) Besides that, it's come up over in The Lost City roleplay - a plan he comes up with is very similar to one from A New Hope, and someone makes the offhand comment about him having Darth Vader pajamas in his drawers.

@Danni88, you have no idea how happy I am that you asked! Riken's super important to the plot. Riken is initially introduced as a shadow being that follows Arthur around after he prematurely gets stuck as his character, Arawn. (He's told it that, because he's a fairy, he goes by the name Arawn but his true name is Arthur. He accidentally used his real name when they first met, so he had to come up with something to explain him having two names.) Riken was the guardian of the shrine that Arthur's character was supposed to have died in; he had already talked with Keith about killing off Arawn so he could make a less cliche character.

But when Riken saw this guy dying after being abandoned by his teammates, it took one of the artifacts and used it to heal him - which accidentally brought Arthur into the world of Aeyis as a result. Riken can't communicate well because of what it is - it can usually get out a word or two, but it sounds like there's a lot of static surrounding what it says.

What the cast doesn't know yet is that there was a previous group of roleplayers - in this case, DnD players - who Kartiel brought to Aeyis, and that they all died horrible deaths in the shrine that Arthur met Riken in. I'm still working out Riken's real name, but Riken was actually one of the roleplayers. She fell under the curse of the shrine. Long story short, you're stuck as that shadowy type of being unless you kill everyone in there. Once you do, you're free, and the last person you killed takes your place. Riken was the last one killed.

But she's already breaking the curse by not harming Arthur, and she'll eventually be returned to her old DnD body. But, for now, she's following Arthur around without knowing that they're both from the same exact world.
  13. What made Riken heal Arthur?
  14. She didn't want to see him die after seeing all of her friends die. It took a really big toll on her, and she felt especially bad after seeing his friends leave without him. (Since she didn't know they were rping and that they had intended to kill off his character then.)
  15. Did Riken have any family?
