Quinn

31 posts in this topic.

  1. Introduction: Hello! My name is Saen, and I'm the owner of this club. This story - and the series it's a part of - currently is named Quinn, but I plan on changing that once I come up with something that fits it more.

    Link: N/A

Brief Description of Story: Quinn has never had a normal life, but adulthood has brought with it a life that's somehow even more bizarre than her childhood. That's because Quinn has been on the road for the past three years, trying to track down a mysterious organization that decided to bind an unwilling demon into a robotic body in an attempt to create the ultimate weapon. That demon managed to escape, and is now her best friend Issac. Things would be weird enough with just the two of them, but become even stranger when you add in the last member of their little group - Gabriel, a demon with a dark past that he doesn't want to talk about it.

But finding the people they're searching for is far from easy, so they keep an eye out for any paranormal occurrences while on the road. And, when possible, they do their best to help out those struggling because of them.

    Story's Genre: Paranormal, Fantasy

Setting: All over the United States of America, featuring a bunch of forgettable small towns.

Preferred Type of Questions, If Any: None! Ask whatever you want.

Other: Basically, Quinn is Supernatural with a lighter tone and a better treatment of the female, non-white and queer characters.
  2. Okay, practical question: how exactly did Isaac get stuck in his robot body? Some kind of ritual? SciencE???? MaGIC???

Also, do demons look much different from humans? If Gabriel's just a normal demon in his regular body, what's he look like?

And are demons common in this world? Do they come from a place like hell/the underworld/whatever or are they like a fantasy race? How are demons different from humans? Do they have different abilities and weaknesses? I MUST KNOW.... for SCIENCE.

ALSO! How old are your kiddos?

I HAVE... MORE QUESTIONS BUT I'll HOLD OFF ON THEM AND leT u ANSWER these firST
  3. ALSO DID YOU CHANGE NAMES BECAUSE I RECOGNIZE THESE CHARACTERS FROM RP'S AND I'M HAPPY TO SEE THEM AGAIN yes just had to add that okay I'm done
  4. Thanks so much for the questions, soundo!

Issac got stuck in the robot body through the powers of magic. There may have been science involved, but the process could have happened with all sorts of humanoid things - like clay figures and stuff. Some genius just thought it'd be cool to give their demon soldiers cool robot stuff. Like lasers, although I don't know if that's actually something Issac will have.

Not too much in their natural forms! I'm still hammering out the specifics, but they've got some horns, a tail, weird colored eyes and just something distinctively not human about them.

Gabriel loves switching things up! I think the appearance he mainly uses for the name Gabriel is a blond guy with blue tips in his hair, and all black clothing. But he's pretty chill with other stuff too, and gender of the appearance doesn't really matter to him.

Demons are from all sorts of places! They can be from Hell, Earth or even be fallen angels from Heaven. As of right now, I've got an Earth demon and a fallen angel demon in the story, but I do want some Hell ones too. They're kind of common, but none of the humans know about it. Well, most of them don't. Basically, imagine our world, and then imagine that there's some demons hiding out among us regular guys!

They do have some weaknesses, but I'm still working on those too! I'm thinking holy water and iron is a definite, but I'm not completely sure on the last part. They don't have a problem with going into churches, though, and Gabriel even wears a cross from time to time because he loves freaking people out when they realize he's a demon.

Quinn is twenty-one at the beginning, and Issac and Gabriel are both several hundred years old!

AND YES I DID CHANGE THEIR NAMES FROM RPS. THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IS SEBASTIAN, WHO I REPLACED WITH QUINN BECAUSE I NEED TO HAVE A LADY HUNTER WHO MAY OR MAY NOT KIND OF BE A SELF-INSERT.
  5. WAIT if Gabriel switches things up, does that mean he can like... shape shift in some form? Or do u just mean like, dying his hair and changing his clothes lol.

Also!! NOW IM CURIOUS!! Why are demons in hiding? Is it just cause of the negative association w/them normally as being evil? Is there a deeper past to demons living amongst humans?

AND LOLOL holy water just...... makes laugh cause it's just........ water that's been prayed over basically :,) BUT I TOTALLY GET IT LOL

AND OMG demons live long!!! So demons have long lifespans?? How long can they live up to? Do they grow up like humans - starting as a baby? How fast do they age?

AND YAAAAAAAS selfinsertsohman ,,, i feel that
  6. Before I got to the end of your introduction post, I was going to SAY it sounded like Supernatural but with demon friends and a lady hunter! you could hardly do worse than Supernatural at women, queer people, and POC I lol'd over "a bunch of forgettable small towns."

    OKAY TWO QUESTIONS

    1. How much time in the story do you imagine Quinn & her demon pals on the road, delivering forgettable small towns from random supernatural attacks? It works pretty well in a TV show because of the serial nature, but for a novel I feel like it would end up distracting too much from the main plot if you spent too much time on it.

    2. So you mention that the plot revolves around Quinn & friends searching for these people who tried to turn Isaac into a weapon, but...like...if he got away from them somehow or something, wouldn't those people be looking for him?
  7. @soundofmind, he can shapeshift! I'm actually using some stuff I came up with for The Occult storybook, so a lot of the lore follows that. (With the exception of some things taken from Supernatural, because I want my actual story to be a bit more creative than that.) Basically, demons can take on the form of anyone who isn't alive. They can be a dead person or someone who never existed, but they just can't become a person already living. Which is why they need to possess people from time to time - though Gabriel and Issac aren't a big fan of that, especially after what Issac is going through.

I'd say they're hiding out because humans don't like them! It's kind of a common theme with my fictional universe. Humans don't like anything that's too different, unless they're like gods or something like that. So demons have been shunned for a very long time, and basically decided to hide it out among humans for so long that humans are now convinced they're either things from religion or just myths from the past - like how we view them!

YES I AGREE. We actually had a joke awhile back in the Saeverse discord about what unholy water would be, which is something I definitely want to have in this because that would be hilarious and something you don't usually see.

They do have long lifespans! I'm thinking right now that they're alive until killed - so kind of semi-immortal? As long as they can survive, they're going to be alive and kicking. I'm going to say right now that they don't start out as babies, at least on Earth? But maybe they do in Hell, and whatever happens in Hell probably happens with the angels in Heaven.

Since they can change their form, I don't think they really age like us! They just pick a form and kind of roll with whatever age the humans around them think they should be. The only identifying trait of a demon would be their soul - which is a common thing in my universe.

It was too tempting not to. I'm always just really frustrated with how fiction portrays women in a story like that especially Supernatural am I right, so I really wanted to have someone like me trying to deal with the paranormal! It also means that I can have the characters be way more sympathetic to all the ghosts and monsters and occasional god that they meet.

@BlueAfrica, I'm not sure! I think the times when they're actually traveling would involve something else on top of it - maybe them discussing more important plot points or preparing for bigger threats? But most of the time it'd focus on a specific place for the majority of the novel, and have there be something that ties back into the two big plot lines with Issac and Gabriel. Quinn does have some baggage, too, so it would also supplement that.

I keep forgetting about that but yes they would. Luckily, Quinn and Issac took care of part of that back when they first met - they changed up the appearance of the robot Issac is stuck in, and Quinn was actually the one who came up with the name he's currently using. (Which is Issac Drake!) Gabriel's real name also isn't Gabriel, but he keeps that a secret from Quinn and Issac - even though they're traveling together. In his defense, he doesn't know Issac's real name, but understands the reason for why it's such a big secret. Since it's just a little hard to hide that someone's a robot when you know what demons should be like.
  8. Follow-up question: why are Quinn&Co looking for the people who put a demon in a robot? Are they trying to figure out what they're up to? How much does Isaac know about that?
  9. Part of it is what you mentioned, but a bigger part of it is that they want to help Issac out. Being stuck in a robotic body isn't fun, even if it makes it harder for traditional things that work on demons to work on him. (For example, holy water is only a pain in the neck because it's water and he's a robot, not because it's holy.) Issac doesn't know much about it. He stuck around long enough to figure out a way to escape, since it happened against his will, and then left so he could figure out a way to get out of this whole mess.

Luckily, he managed to find Quinn.
  10. Do Issac and Quinn mistrust Gabriel?
  11. Not exactly, but they do worry he might accidentally slip up and say Issac's real name instead of the alias he's using - Gabriel tends to be pretty impulsive and socially unaware of things. Their worries are in vain. Gabriel's great at keeping secrets, especially the ones that impact him the most.
  12. I probably should have mentioned this in my first post here, but there are two other characters so far who frequently show up! They're not protagonists, but they do have a big role in the story. Both tend to use aliases a lot, and I'm still working on one of theirs because he loves making his references to things. When they first show up, the two are going by the aliases Lucas I. Feren and Dante Summers.
  13. Hiya @Saen :)

So I was wondering if there were any biblical reasons for using the name Gabriel for a demon with a dark past. As far as my knowledge of angelology goes I believe when angels fall from grace they become demons and Gabriel is the name of an archangel in the bible. Is there a connection there or was it just because it's a cool name?

So if Issac is a robot, does he look like a robot or more like a human? Also, what do your main characters look like?
  14. Hey there!

There wasn't originally, but it's pretty ironic now that I think about it. Issac and Gabriel were originally ocs for a fandom that I liked, and the reason I chose the name Gabriel was because it sounded cool and started with the same first letter of his original name - Geist. But this version of him's big secret is that he's a fallen angel, so who knows? Maybe he just really liked the name, or maybe he wanted the irony. Both sound like something he would do.

He looks more like a human! He can easily pass as a human, but anyone who hangs around him for awhile notices some odd things. His eyes look almost like the eyes you would see in a doll, and he can't fully do facial expressions - smiles in particular are hard for him. It's something that really frustrates him, because he's the type of person who loves to smile. Now he doesn't do it as much because he's worried it'll give his secret away.

I'll start off with Gabriel's usual appearance! Like I mentioned before, he loves switching it up. But when he's trying to be Gabriel, he goes for a darker look. Black leather jacket, black pants, black shirt, black boots, maybe a cross for kicks - he loves the edgy look. He might even throw in a choker. He also tends to make that form on the taller side because he loves messing with Quinn. Gabriel is white with blond hair that's blue at the tips, and he has blue eyes that match the shade of his hair. One of the more notable things about appearance is the black leather jacket; it has a pair of embroidered white wings on it.

Then there's Issac. Issac has a much better fashion sense than Gabriel and Quinn, which is why he's also in charge of helping them dress up for formal occasions. He has short black hair, green eyes and is always impeccably dressed. Collared shirts, dress pants, and dress shoes is what he tends to wear the most. Gabriel teases him a lot about it, but he's secretly very impressed by how stylish Issac can look.

That leaves Quinn. If Gabriel goes for dark and mysterious, and Issac dresses to impress, Quinn mainly dresses for comfort. She's the one who's frequently in a hoodie, jeans and a graphic tee, and you can bet that she has some sort of necklace on. She also never goes anywhere without her glasses. She actually prefers her contacts more, but the glasses have an added bonus that the contacts don't - it makes it harder for people to recognize her. And if there's one thing that Quinn, doesn't want, it's that. Besides clothing, Quinn has her black hair in a very messy bob and has brown eyes.
  15. Okay, simple question for this one. I know you partially answered it because you mentioned that Gabriel is, in fact, a fallen angel, but tell me more! What's the whole dark and sordid history he's hiding from Isaac and Quinn?
