Rules & FAQ

1 post in this topic.

  1. Basic Guidelines

    1. Please be fair and kind to other club members. I know we call it combat, but we don't want anyone to get hurt—give others the kind of respect you want to receive.

    2. When voting on a tournament, please provide a reason as to why you voted how you did; you don't need to go into a full critique, but it's helpful to the writers to know what they did right.

    3. If you have a question, ask a staff member; we're here to help and guide, and we don't bite! Hard.

    4. A newsletter will be sent out once a week with information about ongoing tournaments, however, this is not the primary source of information! If you're in a tournament, make sure to check that thread to stay up to date.

    On Hosting

Anyone in the club is allowed to host a tournament so long as they pass it by staff!

If you have an idea but you're not sure if it will work, or you don't know how to begin or host a tournament, contact a staff member via PM or chatbar and we'll do our best to help you and walk you through it. Once your tournament is up and running, an admin of the club will be assigned as a helpful shadow on your side, in the interest of keeping everything streamlined and on track.

One tournament may start per week, the exception being official tournaments, which may be hosted at any time.

    FAQ

What is TGW, and why is it here?
Quite simply, it's intended to serve the same purpose as The Writer Tournaments. It was created because a few admins of TWT had some different ideas, and we wanted space to be able to mess with these ideas without majorly altering the way TWT runs things!

    So what's different?
There will be a number of different aspects, as we're testing out a multitude of things. Changing the base number of combatants, setting multiple rules in writing, and—this is the most important one—limiting the number of tournaments being hosted at a time.

So will it only be tournaments here, or what?
For now, yes. We are discussing the possibility of hosting workshops on a variety of topics, so keep an eye out for those in the future! Other suggestions for events are extremely welcome as well!

Can I host my own tournament/workshop/event?
Of course! Get in touch with one of our handy-dandy admins (Lareine, Jhinx, ScarlettFire, AdrianMoon) to discuss hosting your own event for the club, and we'll make it so!

    Wait, I've got another question!
Feel free to ask anything you like either on the wall or in this Rules & FAQ thread!

    On Moderation

The staff of TGW would love to moderate very rarely—it's not our primary job, after all, and we're here to have fun the same as everyone else! However, should a situation come up, we will handle it with respect and maturity, and we expect the same among our combatants and hosts.

We do have some regulations on banning which will, for the purpose of the club, be phrased as taking a break. We prefer that all combatants and hosts take breaks of their own volition! However, for total transparency, our guidelines are as below:

    For Combatants
Cheating - 30 day break after their elimination from the tournament in question.
Rudeness - 30 day break after the end of the tournament in question. Re-evaluation accepted based on interactions and behavior, especially regarding the break.
    Plagiarism - Indefinite break.
Excessive Dropping Out - 30 day break after discussion and communication with the offending member. (This only applies after three strikes without communication of their intent to drop out.)
Member Modding - We'll be watching you... (In other words, Member Modding will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. If you see something that goes against stated club rules, please report it to a club admin!)

    For Hosts
Rudeness - 30 day break after the end of the tournament in question. Re-evaluation accepted based on interactions and behavior, especially regarding the break.
Excessive Dropping Out - 30 day break after discussion and communication.
Ignoring Duties - 30 day break after discussion and communication.

    Multiple Offenses
First Strike - Punishment will be as seen under the relevant category in these regulations.
Second Strike - Punishment will be double that under the relevant category.
Third Strike - Punishment will be discussed with the host or combatant in question.
Special Occasions - If a combatant/host is particularly rude or breaks the rules on a large case, the TGW staff will look into it differently. Consequences may be more severe on these occasions.

If you have questions or are confused on any aspect of these regulations, contact a TGW staff member and we will be more than happy to help!

    Thank you!
