The Nanoers Novel: The Grand Finale:

The last days of NaNoWriMo had the writerly world strung tight with anticipation. Everyone’s eyes were glued to the final pearly gates to see who would make it through. Some swept their eyes back and fourth between the golden thrones that lined the Personal Goal podium, and who would make it on to there. Arkhaion rubbed her hands and blew on them. She was relaxed in the castle of Winners where she had been enjoying her stay for quite a while. But it was lonely, and she was looking for some company.

However, the tracking system that the Nanoers had implemented didn’t always quite work. Some unfortunate writer had fallen of the grid and none had heard from them since. Noelle had disappeared after hosting a glorious writing event in the chat room. She had been getting into the grove with 16.6k words, but no one had seen her for the past five days. They’d sent out a search party, but no traces were left.

She wasn’t the only one who had disappeared. TheSilverFox, sly as ever, had somehow managed to sneak way. He had last been spotted on Day 29 and had written 20k and was only one 1k away from his golden throne on the Personal Goal podium. But it was vacant, and everyone waited to see if he would return.

Blueafrica had been working hard to slot in some writing time all month. She managed more than 5k this month which definitely does earn her a winner badge because she kept her motivation levels high the entire time and has written more than she would’ve all month. Maybe she doesn’t count all the squills work she has done, but we definitely do.
Leftywriter also ended the month with round about 13k to their name! The left handed road was the one less traveled by, but she managed to do an awesome job of it!

Adelekm used her 17k to hoist herself onto her well deserved gleaming gold throne that came with having met her own personal goal! She snuggled into the throne and watched the final winners weave their way through the Winners palace doors.

Snazzypencil felt very snazzy as she passed the winners threshold. She couldn’t help but gawk at all the wonderous items inside seeing as it was her first time across. Origamidragons somehow managed to convince the guards to let her in with her 100 paper origami dragons as well. It was their first time accompanying her as well, and as a winner she was entitled to her own room. She kept busy making sure that all her dragons got one too.

Adrianmoon managed to struggle their way through the door as well! They celebrated along with Atsmai who had been working for a few days to run that last stretch. Together they tumbled inside and immediately became the life of the party – blowing up balloons, dimming the lights and even making CAKE.

RagingLive had arrived five days ahead and was very happy being there. They spent the time grooving to the music and shaking the room with their happiness! Deanie had been lagging behind for a long time, but she made it into the doors a day before after she used a boost of 7,5k in a day. No one knew where she whipped that one out from.

R4p17 tottled in a little later with Falconer perched on his shoulder. Together they made their way right over to the food and drinks table. They’d both been so busy writing they hadn’t fallen with the case of do-nothing-but-write-disease and desperately needed some food of sufficiency for them.

Everyone watched as the doors slowly started to close. But then to everyone’s astonishment, a ducky waddled up to the doors and slipped their way inside. It was Blues! He’d managed to finish just nineteen minutes before the gates slammed shut, and proved (in style, might I add) that slow and steady CAN win the race. If slow can even be applied to Nano?

As the writerly world started to get festive for Christmas (or violent. Some people resorted to pulling out lightsabers and all sorts of things for the Star Wars Reviewing Challenge!) the gates of the Winners palace opened for everyone to join in. Because whether you write one word or 50,000 by the end of the Nano, you’ve already written 1 more than at the beginning of the month. And that makes a winner to me.

    THE END

    That was great.

This made me feel so good. Also I may end up quoting it for my Squills article about NaNoWriMo if that's okay

BEHOLD MY ORIGAMI DRAGON ARMY! *parties*

Seriously whoever has been writing these, I want to hug you.

    TheSilverFox replied · Dec 2, 2015

New news! After two days of silence, another quick sweep of the golden thrones lining the Personal Goal podium identified TheSilverFox, sitting (quite happily, I might add) upon the seat he worked so hard to earn. It seems that he had been among those who slipped in at the very last moment, and had spent the past two days relishing in his victory (and relaxing because of the effort of all that written) before coming to announce his exploits before the NaNoWriMo crowd. He had managed to stay hidden during that time, thanks in part to his slyness, but has now taken his place among the winners of NaNoWriMo and all the wonderful people who have participated this month. Rejoice!
