And here we are at the newest Volume so far. With the new animation style and the continuation of the arc, what are your thoughts? Old characters meet back up, new characters are introduced, and it seems that this is not gonna go well. So, hey, let's talk about it!

So, people who have watched the newest episode (so far) how many of you completely didn't/did see that twist coming where Raven is the Spring Maiden? I'm gonna be honest, I really didn't see that coming, like, I had no reason to (bleh looking back that's not an excuse! This is a theorizing community, Omnom, get to work!) think Vernal wasn't the Maiden. But, looking back, it really makes sense and puts a lot of Raven's actions more into focus. When Vernal shows her powers off to Cinder and co., Raven is masked and Vernal doesn't have the glowing ring-eyes thing that is signature Maiden. That right there should have been a glaring sign for me, but I was like "ehh she closed her eyes it happens all the time lol" but that also goes to show just how powerful Raven might be as a Spring Maiden, like, good lord she was able to do all of that without so much as moving a finger.
I have so much more to think about regarding Raven. Like, this puts all of her past decisions in a different perspective, doesn't it? I want to write more, but I'd love to hear all of your thoughts! (cough @AllisontheWriter @ScarlettFire cough) -
I have to say, even as the CRWBY keeps using very cheap hype-generating plot devices, they are totally unpredictable when it comes to the serious plot twists.
If Vernal isn't the Spring Maiden (duh), what keeps her committed to the Branwens to the point that she'd even put her life at risk to keep up a charade? I'm inclined to think that Raven sees her own fault of being a selfish manipultor in others like Ozpin.
Earlier in the volume they talked about how the Spring Maiden ran away from Haven; did Raven find her and kill her? Did Raven manipulate the Maiden into doing her bidding and ultimately giving up her life/powers so Raven could become a Maiden? Or was it simply an unintended consequence of a scared young woman's recklessness?
Whatever happened, I no longer think Raven is as evil as she seems. She's not a good person, but she was never on Salem's side for a moment. She helped Cinder and co. trap the Beacon contingent, without their realizing they're walking into an even bigger trap. -
@AllisontheWriter Yeah one thing that strikes me as kinda weird is how Vernal just accepted this so easily and so willingly went to her death like that. I mean, what did she expect would happen? I know Raven expected a trap, so why did Vernal so willingly give her life up? Is that how strong the Branwen tribe's sense of loyalty is?
Then again, maybe the theories are true that Vernal was the Spring Maiden, but forced her thoughts to go to Raven instead of Cinder. That's unlikely, because of freaky Cinder arm, but who knows. I think that Raven probably took the Maiden in and the Maiden died for reasons that were probably just natural. Like, I don't think Raven would kill the Maiden. I never thought she was that evil, even when she betrayed Qrow and crew.
As a side note, it definitely hints to Neo knowing Raven's power in Volume 2. I know Raven's powerful, but Neo "nope"ing the hell out of there the moment she saw her? Nah, that points to something more honestly. -
Yeah, I don't think Vernal could do that so quickly if she were the Maiden.
Oooh, good point about Neo.... (I miss that evil little ice cream child!!!) But how would she know? Maybe Raven's the reason Neo doesn't talk -- she lost her voice to everlasting Springtime allergies. o.O
What did you think of Hazel? I think losing his sister accounts for his general view that "nobody has to die today" ... unless they're OZZZZZPIN?!?!?!?!?!1?!1

I don't knowww, like, Hazen was cool with his stoicism and how he didn't want to fight people. His anger at Ozpin was justified..? I don't know, I don't see why he's angry enough at Ozpin to kill him. Like, his sister knew the risk (and people who say she didn't are fooling themselves. She may have been the age of our protagonists, but Ozpin makes it very clear that people can, and will, die at Beacon Academy. It is not for the faint of heart.
I also didn't like how his voice changed. I did like how he used Dust, but him fighting felt slow and sluggish. He's a cool dude, for sure.
What do you think of Jaune's Semblance? It brings into perspective I think it was Miles' comments about us already seeing Jaune's Semblance in Volume 1. I know people thought it might be healing, but now that it is, what are your thoughts? Alsoooo the new episode is coming out in TWO DAYS I CAN'T WAIT I HOPE THERE ARE BETTER FIGHT SCENES IN IT PLEASE AND THANKS -
Yeah, as a Shattered Moons player, I'm well aware of the high probability of death. Ozpin does go out of his way to mention it (in the most casual way possible) on Initiation Day.
Wait, what, we saw it in Volume 1? Where? :O
Eeee I hope so too! I was initially worried the finale would be a bit dragged out with 14 episodes, but now I think the Spring Maiden reveal will be what livens things up. -
It was a comment by Miles or Monty, and I'm assuming it was that scene right after Pyrrha unlocked his aura. I'm assuming (like, majorly assuming) that auras don't naturally heal, they're just more of a barrier against harm, not a self-help kit for it. So, while it may block damage, it cannot heal the damage that was already done. SO for Jaune to have healed that minor cut showed us his Semblance.
While that makes sense, I definitely don't like that way of explaining it. We, as an audience, just assumed that was how auras worked because WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY DIFFERENT INFORMATION to go off of. Like, don't tell us this is how auras work to then say "oh wait that's actually just something Jaune can do whoopsies"
Yeah, like, if I were in the shoes of a Huntsman-in-training, I would definitely know the risks of becoming one. I understand she was Hazel's sister, but it's not like they live in a perfect world and they're thrown into this terrible world the moment they start training for a Huntsman. Grimm exist the moment these people are born, and will exist long after they die. Danger exists for everyone.
Also, Blake and her makeshift Menagerie army is coming to Mistral as well! I think we have a lot of content for the last two episodes
